Carriers is a multiplayer Half-Life 2 mod being created by the Shellshock Gaming development team. It's based around a modern-day zombie apocalypse, where players must work together to survive. But now the luck of the carriers has run out, and their immune systems are failing.

At first I thought this mod was about being a courier in Mirror's edge meets L4D & Fallout kind of world.
That would have been more interesting.

The problem with this gameplay idea (aside from the current looks the others have pointed out) is that it's really hard to "promote" team work in a multiplayer game. Even two players can't work together sometimes, but it is not a coincidence that you can't see co-op games today with more than 4 players. Most of these games aren't played between friends and "forcing" +4 players to work together is a pain in the ***. Think about any 32 slot TF2 server. Chaos isn't it?
The other (not gameplay related) problem is that if there is a cure, how did the zombie apocalypse happen? Why aren't there more, well organised survivors? Also judging from other zombie themed creations, carriers do not tend to be so cheerful and optimistic that "I have been bit, but that's okay, there is a cure out there somewhere." No, it's more like "The Walking dead" approach: They get sick quick, die quick, become a zombie quick. You couldn't technically get to the next map, oh hell, even the end of the level without turning into a zombie, unless you heavily "nerf the zombie virus" which would then question the whole apocalypse scenario in whole.

The trouble I see here is that you probably got a rough idea what you wanted to do and rushed with it. Serious development work would require that your team first sit down, decide what you want to create and put down everything on paper, draw concept arts, so basically create the core gameplay's concept, then comes in the writing with the story, characters, world, etc. which also have to make some sense. Only after that you should start actually creating the game/mod.

The point of a carrier is that they have a higher-than-normal immune system. The infection can't take over their entire system until it's actually defeated the carrier's immunity. The majority of people alive have the normal immune system (like we do), but the carriers have much more "defense", if you will. Once that defense is overrun, they begin to suffer from the infection like any normal person.

Teamwork is something that we'll be encouraging, but it won't be a requirement. A player can choose to run ahead if they so wish, but it's recommended to stay with a group. As for concept art, there's a lot, and it'll be scanned whenever I can get a scanner. Thanks for your feedback, though, it's probably going to help us with a lot of problems.

This is actually happening, right now the maps are the framework, the base architecture. We also have a modeller, a mapper (me), and a programmer. So, yeah.
