Carriers is a multiplayer Half-Life 2 mod being created by the Shellshock Gaming development team. It's based around a modern-day zombie apocalypse, where players must work together to survive. But now the luck of the carriers has run out, and their immune systems are failing.

*sigh* Another zombie mod?

Only kidding, best get the 'customary' comment out of the way.
Remember the shop that you remade from Clerks, a few images back.

Just keep working at it, eventually it'll all build up, don't think posting progress shots is any problem at all, maybe remove older ones eventually and throw in a few eye-candy shots or videos every month or so. Maybe withhold some really good stuff for a big update. I've seen many mods go quiet, but then they release a great update post, helped really boost the mods popularity it seemed.

The Quick Stop has an interior now, unlike before, but it still needs heavy improvement, right now it's pretty empty. I probably will delete some of the older progress shots, because they were mainly uploaded so I could get feedback on how to improve the atmosphere. When we find a programmer, the first thing we'll do is either change the HUD or add weapons, which I'm looking forward to showcasing in a video. Thanks for your feedback.

The zombies aren't modified yet, so they're the default Half-Life 2 headcrab zombies. As soon as we customize them a bit, and remove the headcrab, we'll make one.

Ok, I have been following you guys since Christmas. First off, great improvement from the previous pictures. Still, there is a lot to complain about. First of, you probably should work a little more on details. The windows for example, replace those with real props. Try to rotate blocks, create arcs, add more models and add things like ropes to get away from the blocky/square feel. You can see what I mean here: Youtube.com . All your pictures are missing details. And I don't think it's an excuse to just call them WIP's and post anyway. Think about what you post; if it's a good picture it will generate expectations and additional trackers. If it's bad, people will turn away.

Another thing I noticed about these pictures is that you do not use 3d skybox. It will really help improve the look on the pictures. At least, if you are gonna create a town, I expect to see some buildings in the background and not just empty skies.

You seem to only be using the HL2 default textures, which everyone has seen 1000x times before. To get more trackers, you will have to show something unique.

Last, but not least; the whole concept seems way to ambitious for developers like yourself. To get this working you will need a coder with much experience. And they are hard to find, especially for a mod like this.

Anyways, good luck. Regardless of all the trolls in here that downvotes all positive feedback and upvotes negative, I still think it will be interesting to see how this develops over time. It's clear that you guys don't have that much experience with hammer as for example the people behind Visage or NH2 (etc.), but I really don't think many of "the trolls" could do any better ;).

Believe me, this is only the beginning, we're planning to get some more custom textures (because the HL2 textures are pretty awful by today's standards)

Thanks man, your tips are really helpful, we'll be sure to use them!

Thanks for your tips, they're going to help a lot. Our biggest problem right now, I believe, is that we don't have a coder, but we've been looking a lot. As for detail, I never looked at it that way, honestly. I always thought people preferred looking at a map's bones and then seeing it build up over time, and I have no idea why.

ca_town has a 3D skybox but it isn't very large or noticeable. The reason for this is because I'm waiting for the town to be almost finished before making it, in case I decide to expand the roads or something.

Again, thanks!

The mapping could use a lot of work. None of the environments on display are believable as real places.

It would be better to keep practicing on custom maps for HL2 etc, before diving headfirst into a huge project like this.

I do agree with what you're saying because these maps aren't near finished. Some parts of ca_town, however, are based on real locations.
