Call of Chernobyl 1.3.20 Patch

CoC 1.3.20

Important Tips

  • Windows XP is not supported
  • Remove atmosfear_options.ini before you play if you are having poor graphical quality
  • If you have more questions or suggestions please visit Forum.epicstalker.com
  • I suggest you leave AI Die In Anomaly unchecked as it will cause issues with NPCs and campfires
  • Don't forget to check the Addons tab of this moddb page!
  • Run CoC through its own shortcut - vanilla COP shortcut and launcher will not work with CoC

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: How do I install Call of Chernobyl?
  • A: Call of Chernobyl is packaged inside an installer. Simply run the executable and follow the steps on screen. It is not recommended to have your install located in Program Files where your OS is installed. The installer also requires you to have a legal copy of Call of Pripyat installed on your system, this doesn't matter if it's GoG, Steam or boxed versions of the game.
CoC is a standalone and use it's own engine, don't install it over CoP.
Change the default installation path to a new, dedicated folder. Preferably out of the program files folder (or you'll have to launch the game as administrator).
  • Q: The installer is not working properly on my system, is there a workaround?
  • A: Some anti-virus software flags installers created with innosetup as a virus. Our installer is not digitally signed and some users have reported xrParticles.dll being silently removed by their anti-virus software. This is most likely a false positive. Either disable the software during the installation or download Innounp which will allow you to unpack the installation manually.
    • Download The GUI version of Innounp: Mediafire.com
    • Run InnounpW.exe, select Open&Extract and select the setup.exe, then unpack
    • InnoGui.exe works too, but in russian language
  • Q: Does Call of Chernobyl have Windows XP support?
  • A: Sorry, there is no Windows XP support at this time. The OS is 13 years old. The engine binaries were compiled on Visual Studio 2013 which only has support for Windows XP SP3 and only if it is compiled with certain settings. Someone who has worked on Open Xray did give the bins built with these settings to a Win XP SP3 user at one point but it would not run on his system. We also do not have any team members who use this outdated Operating System.
  • Q: What are the system requirements?
  • A: Windows XP is not currently supported. Although the engine supports DirectX 8, I strongly recommend not using it since there are crash-related shader errors on some maps when using this renderer that we do not intend to fix.
    • Windows Vista
    • 4GB RAM
    • Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 / AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+
    • 512 MB DirectX® 9.0c compatible card / NVIDIA® GeForce™ 9800 GTX / ATI Radeon™ HD 4850
  • Q: How do I report issues or bugs?
  • A: Please sign up for the bugtracker site.
    • please try to report all issues to the bugtracker as coherently as possible. It's fairly easy to use - simply create an account, login, then click the Report Issue link. Fill out the form with the best description as possible. Copy & Paste crash log if applicable. If you can visually see the issue please attach a screenshot to report or post a link to an image. For any serious issues, like repeatable crashes, corrupt saves or game breaking bugs report them in the Bugs thread as well. If you manage to get a save right before a reproducible bug, attach it to your bug report.
    • Your crash log should be located in your appdata folder. If you can't find it look in fsgame.ltx in your main game directory and the key '$app_data_root$' should tell you the exact directory. You should find a logs folder in that directory with the xray_*.log. You can also find your screenshot and savegame directory this way, too.
  • Q: How do I change in-game keybinds for many of the added scripted features?
  • A: In Call of Chernobyl\gamedata\axr_options.ini you will find a [global_keybind] section. Here is where you can change keybinds for certain events. This is a list of valid key names: Pastebin.com
  • Q: How do I enable extra Debugging or Spawner menu?
  • A: If you need to enable extra debugging features, put -dbg in the command line options for your shortcut to Stalker-CoC.exe. It should look like this. Using this command line will enable the use of g_god and g_unlimited_ammo in the developer console. It will also print out more much better stack traces in the crash log.
    • Press 'S' in main menu to open the Debug UI. Here you can find a new console with many commands, simply type and enter 'help'. The panel on the right has a spawner and even a jump to level selection list.
    • Additional debugging to log for the lua scripts can be done using Notepad++. Simply 'Find and Replace' all --alun_utils.debug_writewith alun_utils.debug_write.
    • By default you can now reload system_ini() by pressing numpad0 in main menu. This means you can see most changes immediately after loading your game without ever having to restart XrEngine. This is fantastic for weapon ltx editing, icon positioning and much more!
    • DO NOT use the developer console command jump_to_level, use xrs_debug_tools level jumper instead. You can find this in the Advanced tab. There are issues with the dev jump_to_level that breaks things.
    • The Icon Editor can be accessed without going in-game by pressing 'S' in main menu. This allows you to edit the offsets of icons. You must place new item sections in ui_debug_main.script for you to see them in the list.
    • In-game you can press, by default, Insert and it will display the Attachable Items Offset editor. Simply stand next to any stalker and press 'Attach' after selecting an item section from the drop-down list. These sections are read directly from the m_stalker.ltxattachable_items field. Beware that editing the offset fields will auto-save. Either backup your files or use some sort of subversion control (ie. GitHub) when using these tools!
  • Q: What additional engine features did you add?
  • A: You can find an accurate list of engine features here.
  • Q: Does Call of Chernobyl feature or support multiplayer?
  • A: No. Call of Chernobyl was designed as a singleplayer modification to Call of Pripyat with no plans otherwise.
  • Q: Is mod X compatible with Call of Chernobyl?
  • A: Call of Chernobyl should be compatible with texture-only mods. Any mod that alters configs, scripts, all.spawn or any level data will not be compatible without actively merging necessary changes.
  • Q: Can I change factions or my character name?
  • A: Call of Chernobyl does not have such features in-game. But you are welcome to change your faction or name throughgamedata\axr_options.ini. Here is an example:

    CODE: SELECT ALL

    [temp]
    new_game_character_name = Alundaio
    new_game_faction = dolg
    • Simply load your save and the changes will take effect. Here are a list of valid faction names:

      CODE: SELECT ALL

      stalker
      bandit
      csky
      dolg
      freedom
      army
      monolith
      ecolog
      killer

  • Q: How did you create the UI icons?
  • A: All the icons were processed with a plugin called AA's Assistant for Paint.net. You can find it here. Specific settings depend on the icon. For firerarms, you may want to select everything but the trigger.
  • Q: Can I change FOV?
  • A: Yes. Bring up developer console with '`'. Type 'fov ' or 'hud_fov '
  • Q: Can I change grass radius?
  • A: Yes. Bring up developer console. Type 'r__detail_radius' (notice the double _)
  • Q: I have poor performance, what should I do?
  • A: First make sure Grass Density Detail is low as possible by typing 'r__detail_density'. If so, disable Sun Shadows. Considering playing on DX9 enhanced, aka Enhanced Dynamic Lighting (renderer 2.5) if you aren't already.
  • Q: Graphically looks like the game is running in DX8 with very poor lighting and brightness, what should I do?
  • A: Go into Atmosfear options and click reset to default settings button in the options tab.
  • Q: DX10 and DX11 no longer show up in game settings renderer list, how do I fix this?
  • A: First make sure you are not using SweetFX as older version are DX9 only. If not then the cause is unknown and seems to only happen for certain GPU chipsets or maybe it's a Windows Update. Pass -perfhud_hack in the command line; it is a workaround
  • Q: What is the AI Die in Anomaly feature in gameplay options?
  • A: It allows NPC to be affected and damaged by anomalies. Use at your own risk as this is disabled by default because it can cause you to fail tasks because a quest NPC died in an anomaly or have other consequences.
  • Q: What is the mechanic feature in gameplay options?
  • A: When this is enabled, the mechanic will take your weapons when you repair or upgrade for a short amount of in-game time. This is an optional gameplay feature that sort of forces you to switch between backup equipment while your things are at the mechanic.
  • Q: What is Ironman mode?
  • A: When you die all your saves linked to your current character are removed.
  • Q: The game keeps crashing on level load for some levels with an Out Of Memory error, specifically Trucks Cemetery. How can I fix this?
  • A: If you use a lot of addons that add hi-res texturers and meshes, then chances are you are running out of GPU RAM on prefetch. Pass -noprefetch through your shortcut to disable prefetching; this is a workaround.

Great, great, great mod...great is the concept behind the mod...and great is the work that the team did, is evident. I'm still in the first hours of play, I can't still give a definitive opinion. But what I've seen and felt in these hours is great. The entire Zone of all three games, all in CoP and in X-Ray 1.6 plus AtmosFear, and all the other stuff...it's a dream...for me the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is Atmosphere, the sensation of being isolated in a incredibly hostile and atmospheric environment. And this Mod brings all this environment, all the atmosphere in one game. Great work...and thanks.

"There is no need to install Call of Chernboyl over Call of Pripyat."?
Why?

"It is not recommended to have your install located in Program Files where your OS is installed."
where must install?

1. Because Call of Chernobyl is standalone but we require you to have a legal copy of Call of Pripyat.

2. Because certain script features use lua i/o methods to read/write to ini files. Windows will silently fail these i/o on applications without admin privileges that are installed in program files. A good indicator of this occurring is if the game crashes when you start a new game.

This is also the reason why the new launcher will try to start xrEngine.exe with admin privileges for those that wonder why we need to do this. It's just a failsafe for those that do install into C drive program files. It's not needed at all if you install CoC on another drive.

Could this possibly have something to do with my energy meter only working in 2 of the faction options (only duty and ecologist factions work, all other just gives unlimited energy)

I initially installed CoP so I could play this but then saw CoC was a standalone so I uninstalled CoP.

An amazing work was done with this game, I like increasingly more while I playing!

I installed the main game and all addons and in 'Windows 10 Enterprise x64' runs amazing, without at least one crash. This was until I wanted to enter into 'Trucks Cemetery' and the game was closed instantly... In 'Windows 7 Ultimate SP1' has no problems.
I read that this is a custom level, what is wrong with him?

I was crazy. It is a bit too big for the engine.
Geometry count is like 2 or 3 vanillas levels.

Maybe it's related to Win10 and hardware/drivers. I know beta testers had problem with DX10/DX11 render and Win10.

You can only change this in the gamedata\gameplay\character_desc_general.xml for the actor profile of the faction you selected. You must unpack gamedata though.

Dunno if this was said earlier, but it seems that the mechanic feature isn't working properly, if you'll queue up multiple upgrades or repairs, it will multiply the time necessary for completion instead of summing, I think I queued around 7 or 8 items and had to wait for the last one for 900 hours :|

This has quickly become my favorite mod. I can't wait to see what more people do now that this is available. I have two small questions, if you don't mind.

Do you still need info from stalkers before a stash is filled? I keep finding stashes but the vast majority are empty. I ask because I don't remember hearing any beeping sound/seeing messages when I loot NPC's.

Also, are the unique weapons from previous games in their various locations? Armor suits? I haven't found any yet, but I am only now really giving that a go, so maybe I'm just missing something.

Are the secret stashes and weapons/armors in the same locations as in the original games?

The game is great, I am already in love with him. You have a plenty of options at startup, and sufficient missions to always have something to do.
But what happened with Oasis? This place still exists to Jupiter and it is as hard to get there. But when you finally succeed, you will not find anything in that tree.
It would be nice to find the artifact at his place...

While the mod is hands the THE BEST mod for CoP there's some major flaws.
1. Monolith members/zombies are ignored by creatures, but attacks the player. Either set the Monolith/zombies to fight the aggressors or give player the same 'immunity' from being attacked. 2. A Monolith player is hopelessly outgeared, lack of funding, and placed in the most dangerous region in the game (I fixed this by making all factions start out with 99999999 RU)
2. The AI have some serious issues with fighting even on Master. They're completely retarded to the point that they will crouch-walk up to me and let me shoot them (Monolith faction)
3. Factions who are hostile to most (Monolith, Mercenaries, Bandits, etc, etc) are COMPLETELY hopeless when out of their zone as the lack of traders/repairs doesn't give you the options to explore the zones.
4. Allies don't do anything. I tried to talk to one without my weapon drawn and he proceeded to give me a pimp smack and send me on my way.

Maybe it's me, but it appears that Swamp isn't affected by the grass density setting. When the sun is up, the sprite-work just looks absolutely horrible with the amount of flora that's around, just like big red glowing stripes which are supposedly supposed to represent wild grass, I suppose, horribly contrasting with the background.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

This is a very late reply, but the Clear Sky Swamp map has a lot of "hard-coded" tall grass by design [it's supposed to be a swamp after all :D] which won't be affected by the grass density setting. You can see the same thing on a smaller scale in Zaton around the Skadovsk.

First of all, congratulations for winning the MOTY award, you really deserve it :).

I ran into a problem, and that is that I was able to say "Task complete" to T-Bone (Clear Sky Mechanic) when I was doing the mission of the Advanced Repair Kit. It did nothing as I would expect, but now that I got the Kit, it still does nothing when saying "Task complete" to him. I would love to remove the task completly and ask him again for the mission to check if it solves it, but so far I don't know how to do it.

In short, I want to eliminate the task about getting the advanced repair kit to make him give the mission again so I can check if it works after doing that.

Using the latest version (1.2.24) with Arsenal Overhaul 3.1 Final.

Thanks in advance, good luck and have fun :)
