I would like to suggest using Oblivion hacks for BW when spectating. It has a lot of nice features that'll make that way better.
Such as seeing what units/upgrades are in production queues, being able to see cloaked units (Although they still can't be targeted but I think they can be selected), and many other things.
It'll make spectating a game a lot better. Of course I'm not suggesting to use this when playing, but just for spectating.
Do keep in mind that a lot of Oblivion's functionality can be turned on or off as well. That way, you don't have to have the actual cheating functions on such as maphacks.
