Where to begin. I'm a doomer who's relatively new to the scene, never really played much, got back into it around the time Doom 3 BFG edition released for the 360. I wasn't a fan of the re-release to say the least, but it came with doom 1 and 2, which I played extensively on the xbox. I kept wishing there were more features, such as aiming down the sights, jumping, a good melee to use in a firefight, realism, at least in the sense that you'd have to reload. a lot was missing that could've made it better. then I heard about the new doom, currently flying as only "doom" and heard it was gonna be doom 1 and 2 all over but with tons of badassery. then, in many blogs and forums where people were describing the gameplay (videos were never released of the new doom, a select few saw the gameplay)I kept seeing a recurring notion: that it was similar to brutal doom. I thought to myself "what the hell is brutal doom and how in the world could it possibly compare to what I was seeing in the gameplay reviews?" so after a long and tedious process of getting wads for doom 1, doom 2, plutonia, tnt, and some of the other well known ones and getting them all to work with the v19 (I actually had to look up a tutorial as I wasn't big on playing doom on computer. didn't even know what a wad was for a while there.) I was... well shocked to say the least. it had all that I wanted, and that was missing in the first 2 dooms and then stuff I didn't even know I wanted or needed. from new sounds, sprites, and animations, to new guns, player actions, and even finishing moves where you could tear enemies apart piece by bloody piece. it was everything I could possibly hope for, and for free!! this is something I would honestly not mind paying money for. it was as if a new game was released, like playing doom for the first time all over again. to tell the truth, its everything I hope the new doom they speak of releasing SHOULD be (minus the next gen graphics of course, cant wait for that). Every doom fan with a hard-on for ultra-violence and tearing paths through hordes of demon enemies should try this mod at least once imho. if I could, i'd have given it 100/10 for rating, and I very much look forward to the v20 release on June fifth.
Amazing gore and particle visual effects. The player's and enemies' projectiles look much more deadly. This is almost how the default game should be. The greatest part is that it can be combined with custom maps or other mods for even greater gameplay experience.
