This is exactly how Doom deserves to be played, fast, frenetic and violent as hell and the mods developer has clearly never settled for less than perfect in this mod. Even people who never played the original Dooms can get a feeling for just how much attention to detail the developer has put into this mod!
First of all let me say that I am something of a Doom snob. I generally consider any mod that messes with the core game play mechanics of the classic Doom episodes to the degree that Brutal Doom does, to be damn near sacrilegious.
However Brutal Doom is anything but sacrilegious. It is truly a glorious piece of work.
You can tell this is something that was worked on diligently for over two years. From the myriad of new sprite animations (watching a Pinky chow down on a Sargent it got into a fight with was awesome to say the least), new enemy attacks, and last but not least, an arsenal of weapons that is gratifying as hell to use.
Any fan of Doom and classic shooters should check out Brutal Doom. I mean like right now.
I rarely write reviews on mods / games but I decided to make an exception and drop a few lines to support my high rating on this awesome mod. I'm quite a few years older than majority of moddbers so I can clearly remember the day Wolf3D shareware was released and how hyped I was about it (truth be told, I was like 9 y.o. at the time) and I do remember how big of a revolution Doom shareware was when it was released. At the time that Doom and DoomII were released I didn't have an internet connection and I didn't really use BBSs so I didn't really know anything about WADs and I moved to newer games in the mid 90s (Duke3D, other Build engine games, Quake, later Unreal etc.) but from time to time I still ran good old Doom and to this day I'm surprised how fresh it still feels. My last "rendez vous" with Doom was a couple of years back when I played it on Xbox (don't judge me :) ) and then I heard on a certain vlog from Total Biscuit about Brütal Doom and how awesome it was. I kinda forgot about it until a few days ago when I finally decided to give it a shot. I'm pretty lost for words but all I'd like to say is that it really improves on good old Doom formula, action is tense and graphics (along with GZDoom) are really neat even if maps themselves are based on 2 decades old engine. It is one of few titles I've played in recent years when I wanted to play just another map, and then another, and another etc. Admittedly mod is a wee bit tricky to set up if you aren't into WADs but it's well worth your time. If Doom was ever near and dear to your heart or if this is going to be your first date with it I suggest you do it the Brütal way.
This is Doom perfected for a newer generation, with all the EXTREME insanity of the 80s or early 90s packed into one neat package. For the newer gamers, aiming down the sight is in place for some guns. But it isn't even the usual ADS, it actually AFFECTS how some of the guns function, especially with the Assault Rifle. None of the guns are "useless" or "weak" with that in mind, and you'll find yourself switching quite often even to the very first weapon which just so happens to BE the Assault Rifle! With all these tasty and much more satisfying guns than the originals, you'll paint walls RED with the blood of your demonic enemies as you brutally MURDER them in a variety of ways. But they put up just as much of a fight, moving faster, hitting harder, and doing UNEXPECTED THINGS like my much hated and terrifying Cocademon... God, those things are STILL terrifying!
Please, if you're a fan of the Doom series like me, you MUST NOT pass this mod up. It's quite possibly the best the Doom mod community has to offer! It's Doom the way you truly imagined it and in the image of the infamous comic!! With impressive sound effects, gore effects, and in canon animations for an impressive mod! Get it right away!
Here, i make a new Review. Brutal Doom Version 19, i have to say, is much an improvement to BDV 18 and especially to the original doom series. Why, there could be a bunch of "**** YEAH!"s going around your head. The game just takes you, it put's you in the helmet (we could refer to the new Helmet Visor. You feel real! Like you're holding that Super Shotgun. Like you would tear an imp in half. Like you getting torn in half by a Baron of Hell. Just feels so real. But Doom Metal is way too big for a quick download.. Anyway, Sergeant Mark IV put a bunch of work into this, i can tell. he did a good job too
This modification is absolutely magnificent! It brings the game to a new level, imho more enjoyable than DooM 3 and "high grapich" FPS here around,besides is compatible with TNT, Plutonia, DooM 1 and 2 and map packs... this means hours of gruesome carnaging of demons with cool weapons and brutal dismemberment of enemies.
Rescuable marines who helps you and Mortal Kombat (which I love) like fatalities give to this amazing mod other points to it's awesomeness, to not mention the possibility to acquire big demon's rocket launchers chopping their limbs with chainsaw or crushing their corpses!
One of the best and most violent mods off all times I've ever played for one of the best and of my first games ever: DooM.

This mod is simply the best game I#ve ever played! After getting in touch with Brutal Doom, almost every other game lost its right to exist for me. Vanilla Doom was awesome; nowhere else you face so many enemies at once! Now you have all the enhancements of Brutal Doom like finishing moves, hitzones and the most beautiful gore system ever. Brutal Doom rocks, and once V19 is out, you can see me livestreaming this title on Twitch / the Corsual Live stream very often, thats for sure! Thanks for all your work Seargant, MUCH appreciated! Everything in the game has been improve in this mod, the phase of the game is a lot faster, the grapgics has been polished, now the punches can trigger a fatality and a kick was added, this helps a lot making doomguy even more badass than before.
Every wepon now have a secondary attack, in some cases, like the machine gun, it allows you to be more accurate, because now it's going to be needed. You can make headshots and even shoot at the legs to avoid getting surrounded by the enemies.
In general is the best mod I've seen, making an already great game, even better, can't wait to see v19
Come for the gore, stay for the interesting gameplay. Brutal Doom flattens the power curve of the weapons so that no gun is made redundant by another. The regular shotgun and the super shotgun compliment each other nicely, and the assault rifle (formerly pistol) is better than the minigun when it comes to long-range engagements. It changes how the game plays in a really interesting way.
