In development since 2010, the 18th Cacoward winner and Moddb 2012 MOTY Editors Choice of Creativity Award Brütal Doom takes Doom into a whole new level. It makes the game much more violent than before. There's much more blood, plus it adds unique gibs, death animations, dismemberments, headshots, executions, fire and explosion particles, flares, shadows over all objects, and much more.
The whole world becomes more real and interactive.You can kick severed limbs and heads (and sometimes, use it to activate some traps in the map earlier, or even kick them against enemies to do some damage), you can shoot enemies' heads to deal more damage (and cause more gruesome deaths) you can destroy most things in the the scenario (trees, lamps, hanging bodies, etc), you can paint the floor, the walls, and even the ceiling with blood, you can push the explosive barrels to make traps, or grab them and use like an explosive weapon, you can silently take down enemies from behind and perform stealth kills, the chainsaw actually cuts the enemies in two. When you find the berserk pack and get super strength, you can perform cinematic executions and RIP AND TEAR your foes with your bare hands. Some enemies will scream in anguish and try to crawl away when near death, and they can be used as human shields, and much, much more

Everything in Brutal Doom is extremely intense. Everything sounds louder, looks bigger, moves faster, and hits harder. You can even fell the impact of explosions. Enemies are harder and smarter, and weapons and explosions are loud as fuck. Your weapons have been upgraded to a deadly arsenal, completely throwing the vanilla Doom's "progressive weapon system" through the window. Every weapon is powerful and have it's pros and cons, and a weapon will never be outclassed when you find a new weapon.You have new abilities too. With any weapon selected, you can press Q (default bind) to kick enemies at close range and send them away. Press F (default bind) to taunt enemy players, and Z or X (default binds) to wave to other players in cooperative modes.
Brütal Doom will make the good an old Doom have a new and fresh look. It will give you a reason to play all the Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, and Final Doom levels again. This mod also works with almost every megawad and map pack around. Take a breath, and prepare to RIP AND TEAR HUGE GUTS!!!!!

Check out this new video showcasing the latest advancements on gameplay and gore effects, and also, the return of the shotgun's wooden grip.

This video is running a modified version of FreeDoom that will be featured on the "Starter Pack" when BDv20 gets released.

I have completed almost everything required to record the official trailer and decide the release date. Expect big news soon.

BDv20 is also going to be 100% compatible with wads that uses custom graphics such as FreeDoom and Back to Saturn X.

I think you just did your job all too well. Please understand that I've followed this mod a long, long time, and part of that meant following threads on Doom-centric sites. Without fail, it was only a matter of time until some turd (usually a "mod author" with serious jealousy issues) would appear screaming that Brutal Doom "is too much" and that Sarge is an idiot kid trying to COD-ify "classic" Doom, etc etc etc.

Dude I just have a different opinion, and at times like no other. But man I can't be wrong about this. Brutal Doom V20 is overrated and over-the-top, which I must point out I've never seen in older versions of the mod. I think I'll just leave you guys at your spot.

But I mustn't forget that some **** will come now and downvote my comment just because he thinks "**** YOU IDOIT I LUV V20 KILL URSELF". Sadly this is the Brutal Doom fanbase, really.

Unless you're talking about the recent test version, how do you have access to the real deal? The test version is what it is, a test version, of course it has problems, it's a TEST not a beta. And your "thunders" is that YOUR version (Which is great by the way don't get me wrong) is the most popular while sarge is working on v20. So no one here is against you or anything, If anything, I look forward to seeing what you can do with v20 when it comes out.

Also, I heard what u said about the 18 version being the best version of the mod, so I download it, and in the coments a random guy said to someone use the Zandronum, and u said that it was a bad tip for newbies cuz they should use G\ZDoom. If u want to see, it was in the download sesion of Recurring Nightmare.

So, my question is, why GZDoom is better? I thought Zandronum was the best.

Heh, this is just what I think. Technically GZDoom is better due to the fact it is much more modern, upgraded, and modding friendly. Zandronum, to be honest, has very minimal modding possibilities due to the fact it is an ancient version of GZDoom with multiplayer. GZDoom has multiplayer too but it's just not that simple to setup.

You don't like the features of the current version? Then go back to your preferred version or edit the mod yourself into what you like. He gave permission to do so after all.

As far as I'm concerned, Brutal Doom v20 looked like it's coming along well. Can't wait to see the full release.

Some said that the performance is much better in V20? I don't think it works for me: Only a few body parts and blood caused me a major FPS drop, my FPS was 25. I gibbed the hell out of 10 monsters and was around 5 FPS. Even worse, this was in Software mode where almost everything runs on it. This is ridiculous. In V19 I could gib 10 monsters in the same rendering mode and still get around 60 FPS.

The weapons, what can I say? The Chainsaw is over-powered, the weapons actually have recoil now (Weird, Doomguy can rip and tear a body with his hands but can't resist a weapon's kick?), the shotgun **** animation sucks *** and the Shotgun and Rifle sights are so funny. I laughed my *** when I saw how terrible they are; The Rifle sight is way too short and the Shotgun ones aren't even usable. The only reason I'll praise Mark here is the dual wielding feature in the Rifles. How the heck people actually enjoy this version?

I may be mean and I apologize if I do, but this is just ******* ridiculous.

This comes from a modder that has been playing the mod since 0.7, and to be completely honest 0.7 seems way better than V20. Seriously Mark please stop killing your already awesome mod and start making it like you did back with V18, that was the last good version from you. If next versions are like this disappointment, I'm gone.

You mention that, because the Doomguy is ostensibly strong enough to tear people apart with his bare hands, recoil should not be a problem. Well, if we're going to do a tit-for-tat with that kind of logic, I'd like to point out that you're quite wrong.

Recoil has to go somewhere. No matter how strong you are, the harmonic shock will travel through the point of least resistance. If your arms didn't recoil, the next less rigid part of you would. We're not made of metal - our squishy tissues are subject to physical disruption.

Honestly, I don't even know why I felt a need to point that out, but whatever. I suppose I had to defend the notion of recoil. I haven't experienced it yet, but it ideally could add another much-appreciated nuance to the game's shooting mechanic.

I have to agree with mostly everything here. The new gore system is giving me a decrease in framerate, but not so much to your extent. It is still bothersome though, and my system has been able to handle the majority of stuff I throw at it, including FarCry 4, Dead Rising 3(which is terribly optimized), Advanced Warfare, etc. The shotgun's wider spread is also another gripe of mine. Most shotguns in real life have a fair amount of accuracy, which seems contrary to shotguns in most games nowadays. So as it currently stands, V18 has to be my preferred version so far.

Very obnoxious is more fitting to describe your statement. I'm going under the assumption that you're referring to the recent test version of Brutal Doom. Though in your comment you sound as though you have access to the final version.

The test version isn't the official product, it shows the current progress of development and what still needs to be added/polished. So of course it's going to be rough around the edges.

The new animations, weapons, and features I have seen so far actually make Brutal Doom better. The monsters don't look as stiff nor does the Doom Marine. Plus, the AI for both marines and monsters feels a little more smarter this time around. They will try to dodge rockets for once. The chainsaw technically was always overpowered since vanilla Doom. You can practically keep most monsters stun locked with it till they die.

As far as the frame rate goes, that appears to be a problem on your end. I played the test version on my computer, which isn't a powerhouse by any means, and got a consistent 60fps. Even with all effects on screen at once.

I say with more polish Brutal Doom v20 will be an awesome update. If a few disagree. *shrug* Well, you can't please everyone.

When v19 came out, I was so disappointed that he'd started taking features (like the dodge roll) out of the mod, I opted to stick with v18. Now that someone's made mutators for 19 that sort out those problems, I got into it & despite the still missing mechanics, I'd say there was still a lot of fun to be had here & there. Bear in mind though, this was only because there was mutators to bring stuff back in.

If what you say about this new version is true, then depending on what first impressions are when I start playing, **** it; v18 it is, since I've still got that. Best ironsights, the most content (despite a lack of the newer animations like the fists) & it runs hella smoothly. You could even play wads like Threshold of Pain that has MASSIVE areas to explore & lots of fancy effects to slow less capable machines down. I had occasional slowdown but nothing serious.

Saying that, I'm not going to instantly judge before the final version has come out. I haven't played it yet, so I have nothing to go on other than what's been said here. It is going to get a chance from me, especially after the little 'scene' I caused last time. But right now, it ain't sounding too good.

Most of the things, you're talking about, are very individual, for example, I dont have fps drops, I like the new dynamics, and I think that the new animation fits the mod very well.
Btw, I do not like a bit of a new weapon and monsters balance.
But Mark is not a personal dream machine, he playing the mod since 0.1 and, I think, he knows what he wants to bring into it. I think you should understand that and calm down. Аt least you can fix what you dont like by yourself (I'm not a modder, so I cant do that :) ).

Indeed guys V20 isn't finished yet. Just wanted to point out a few things so Mark can change and think of the good things he did in the past. V18 still remains a favorite; It runs hellishly smooth, had the best effects, had everything. V19 was not really a great version, despite the added features and such.
