In development since 2010, the 18th Cacoward winner and Moddb 2012 MOTY Editors Choice of Creativity Award Brütal Doom takes Doom into a whole new level. It makes the game much more violent than before. There's much more blood, plus it adds unique gibs, death animations, dismemberments, headshots, executions, fire and explosion particles, flares, shadows over all objects, and much more.
The whole world becomes more real and interactive.You can kick severed limbs and heads (and sometimes, use it to activate some traps in the map earlier, or even kick them against enemies to do some damage), you can shoot enemies' heads to deal more damage (and cause more gruesome deaths) you can destroy most things in the the scenario (trees, lamps, hanging bodies, etc), you can paint the floor, the walls, and even the ceiling with blood, you can push the explosive barrels to make traps, or grab them and use like an explosive weapon, you can silently take down enemies from behind and perform stealth kills, the chainsaw actually cuts the enemies in two. When you find the berserk pack and get super strength, you can perform cinematic executions and RIP AND TEAR your foes with your bare hands. Some enemies will scream in anguish and try to crawl away when near death, and they can be used as human shields, and much, much more

Everything in Brutal Doom is extremely intense. Everything sounds louder, looks bigger, moves faster, and hits harder. You can even fell the impact of explosions. Enemies are harder and smarter, and weapons and explosions are loud as fuck. Your weapons have been upgraded to a deadly arsenal, completely throwing the vanilla Doom's "progressive weapon system" through the window. Every weapon is powerful and have it's pros and cons, and a weapon will never be outclassed when you find a new weapon.You have new abilities too. With any weapon selected, you can press Q (default bind) to kick enemies at close range and send them away. Press F (default bind) to taunt enemy players, and Z or X (default binds) to wave to other players in cooperative modes.
Brütal Doom will make the good an old Doom have a new and fresh look. It will give you a reason to play all the Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, and Final Doom levels again. This mod also works with almost every megawad and map pack around. Take a breath, and prepare to RIP AND TEAR HUGE GUTS!!!!!

I'm not a critic. I'm not even a cynic. The world doesn't revolve around me, and I don't think it does. I just like my Doom a little bit more...subdued. Grittier, gorier, more immersive, but more in line with id's original vision. That's why I enjoy core Brutal Doom.

Nothing wrong with the crazier stuff. We can exist in the same world. :-p

But does it work as expected? I think that if you are looking down and using A_GunFlash you will either not see your legs at all or they will obscure your whole vision. I dunno how such thing is possible, but if you can find out how, HOLY ****. DAT IS AMAZING.

Basically I think it IS possible, but the code would be huge. On the other hand if you kick while looking down you will see 3 legs. I guess ZDoom is not up for that yet :(

Are you trying to say doomguy DOESN'T have a third leg?... Which he also puts boots on? Also, could you make the kick make the legs partially disappear while kicking? Say, when in kick state , only left legshows, while right is in kick animation? Idk much about coding, but i think that could work.

Well the problem was like you said, the flash sprites were "layered" over the weapon. That- and I'm harsh on myself when it comes to my own visuals. If I don't like the way something looks, I'll spend all day on it to make it a masterpiece.

While goofing around in the latest v20 beta, I managed to switch to a right-hand rifle/left-hand chainsaw combo. The rifle doesn't work, and the game prints an error message to that effect, but the chainsaw can be used in the off-hand just like the normal chainsaw. The sprite is even correct for one-handed use, even though the animations are a little wonky.

Absolutely hilarious, and here's my vote that it remains as a feature in the final. It's the weirdest thing I've seen in some time, and I love it.

Also, I'm sure everyone knows that the game prints errors for the chainsaw regarding the flashlight. Is that functional for the other weapons yet?

Yup, just figured out how to reproduce it, too.

Have a chainsaw and two rifles. Reload left rifle with a full right rifle, then use the drop command to drop the left rifle. Boom, got a chainsaw in my left hand. It works so well it's hard to believe it wasn't done on purpose. If only the rifle could fire! Please don't kill this, Sarge. It's so much fun. :-)

That's awesome, I'll have to try that myself. I think a shotgun and chainsaw combo would also be very fitting, seeing as how Doom was partly influenced by Evil Dead.

Lol true. The only way I see reloading possible is if you lower the chainsaw off-screen to the ground, reload the shotgun, then pick the chainsaw back up. Or maybe the chainsaw could have a carrying strap, so you can just sling it over your shoulder and reload.

Brutal Doom is an over the top (and OVERRATED) mod for the classic DOS Doom games. The weapon sprites look nice and smooth... That is where the positives end I am afraid.
