In development since 2010, the 18th Cacoward winner and Moddb 2012 MOTY Editors Choice of Creativity Award Brütal Doom takes Doom into a whole new level. It makes the game much more violent than before. There's much more blood, plus it adds unique gibs, death animations, dismemberments, headshots, executions, fire and explosion particles, flares, shadows over all objects, and much more.
The whole world becomes more real and interactive.You can kick severed limbs and heads (and sometimes, use it to activate some traps in the map earlier, or even kick them against enemies to do some damage), you can shoot enemies' heads to deal more damage (and cause more gruesome deaths) you can destroy most things in the the scenario (trees, lamps, hanging bodies, etc), you can paint the floor, the walls, and even the ceiling with blood, you can push the explosive barrels to make traps, or grab them and use like an explosive weapon, you can silently take down enemies from behind and perform stealth kills, the chainsaw actually cuts the enemies in two. When you find the berserk pack and get super strength, you can perform cinematic executions and RIP AND TEAR your foes with your bare hands. Some enemies will scream in anguish and try to crawl away when near death, and they can be used as human shields, and much, much more

Everything in Brutal Doom is extremely intense. Everything sounds louder, looks bigger, moves faster, and hits harder. You can even fell the impact of explosions. Enemies are harder and smarter, and weapons and explosions are loud as fuck. Your weapons have been upgraded to a deadly arsenal, completely throwing the vanilla Doom's "progressive weapon system" through the window. Every weapon is powerful and have it's pros and cons, and a weapon will never be outclassed when you find a new weapon.You have new abilities too. With any weapon selected, you can press Q (default bind) to kick enemies at close range and send them away. Press F (default bind) to taunt enemy players, and Z or X (default binds) to wave to other players in cooperative modes.
Brütal Doom will make the good an old Doom have a new and fresh look. It will give you a reason to play all the Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, and Final Doom levels again. This mod also works with almost every megawad and map pack around. Take a breath, and prepare to RIP AND TEAR HUGE GUTS!!!!!

I don't know if anyone else has been having issue with fatalities in the V20 versions but at times if I perform a fatality the monster just disappears and fatality is not performed but you are then stuck in 3rd perspective view not able to do anything except walk around and get killed.

Russian Overkill has serious balance issues like most other mods by PillowBlaster ie Trial Blazer/Guncaster, and while I do like DoomRLA and various other gameplay conversions like Project MSX, they have little to nothing to do with Brutal Doom, its a great mod in and of itself for reasons those mods barely even fathom or acknowledge. They are not gore mods, while they may have some enhancements in that field, PillowBlasters mods aren't specialized in that let alone providing enhanced versions of regular enemies, environment destructibility and customization.

Some like ProjectMSX do maintain a level of balance while still keeping fluid gameplay and interesting mechanics, so its clear the basics of balance that comes from greater power and utility in player weaponry & special enemy attacks and faster projectiles are there but they still aren't gore mods, they don't give incredibly satisfying melee combat, enemies viscera interacts with the environment, how items and environments are stained in blood and guts. At best the things in common is that they embrace the over-the-top nature of Doomguy in various different ways. As far as I know, DemonSteele tries its hand at gore and environment destructibility and thats a merely holding a candle to Brutal Doom many years after it, instead its more about restyled enemies/mechanics, and DoomRLA is particularly good at randomized greater enemy varieties. Apples and oranges.

They all at their core try and make Doom feel fresh, modern and more fun than ever before, but Brutal Doom was the greatest leap forward in that way, seeing what Doom engine is capable of, especially for attracting new modders and tons of attention to Doom and in-turn; every other good Doom mod out there. And now with all this attention a few popular modders and even a website owner (of realm667) Tormentor667 (who probably got alot of web traffic & donations as a result of the new people) are basically giving backhanded compliments.

'Its got so many people into Doom again, so much new modding potential & large audiences but now lots of people complain about BD compatibility', -_- yes because fame has its disadvantages now that they've gotten their audience :D
Set a few simple rules and show some respect? No. They instead decide to complain about fatalities or being 'to intense and loud', pointing out one or two personal annoyances as proof that the whole mod is not balanced? No, they obviously don't know what unbalanced looks like. (eventhough they've probably played Russian Overkill or AEOD lmao!).

Well said, brother. Let me also add that most of them uses the word "overrated" and "annoying fanboys" to state pointless arguments regarding this modification. Let me as well add the fact that Sergeant Mark IV became controversial because of the "suicide bag issue". Overreaction ensues since the incident. Folks like SArais urges me to wish I was never born in this generation at all.

Brutal Doom is an over the top (and OVERRATED) mod for the classic DOS Doom games. The weapon sprites look nice and smooth... That is where the positives end I am afraid.
