Description

this WAD was made using actual songs, all pure 666% pure Metal. bands include Amon Amarth, Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, HeXeN, Ghost, and maybe a few others i forgot to include! at the moment of this upload, this wad only supports TUD (just doom, regular old doom, im working on II, dont count on me though), there are files left over from where i started (credits go to Doom Metal Volume 4 and everyone that made it, i do intend to replace these) sorry about the large filesize. enjoy and send those demons back to where they came!

It could have been taken down before. Were in the clear now because no mp3 files aree being shared. Mods replace music all the time with real songs (killing floor has a shitton of metallica and megadeth replacements, though .ogg drops the quality so much) this should be here to stay. And ill be working on part two next time i get a few days off

If I have a previously created folder called "Skins" with metal music, (this one Moddb.com) should I put them in the same directory?

Are you using Zandronum? If so, anytime you want to use any modded content, place it in the "skins" folder and Zandronum will do all the work for you. So yeah, just drop it in "skins".

SwiftyMagee Jul 1 2014, 6:33am replied:

Edit: OK, so I downloaded this file and instead of the music tracks being in a wad, he simply put all the mp3s in a rar file. So dropping them in the "skins" folder doesn't work. Maybe the author intends for people to just listen to them in a media player while playing Doom?

If I were Prime79 I would re-upload this as a wad file and not a rar.

the files need to be ogg files with the name of the original soundtrack to work automatically and should be placed in a pk3, which is nothing but a renamed zip

I think that works only for Zandronum. For GZDoom, you'll have to rename the ZIP into a WAD.

thats exactly right no music should ever be in a wad unless it's midi the other formats supported by ZDoom, GZDoom, and Zandornum all support pk3 music files and it's too easy to make to justify a wad. it would take me 2 minutes to make a was and 30 seconds or less depending on your computer. so you tell me what is better?

I understand that this Add-On is about to rock your Doom experience... But you should take in note that using records from real bands is illegal. I love them (I'm a hardcore metalhead!) but I just wish you can make some remakes of the songs as long that having the originals is illegal...

As far as i understand, in the T&A here, this is technically fine, because this is a mod and isnt paid distribution. You have other mods out there (like for STALKER, that use real bands for the Bar music, such as metallica, styx, death, and even some youtube parodies of such songs in there) ive read over it, several, several times. This more or less isnt as much distribution as say...doing covers or recording the band playing live.

it's still a grey zone, I'd be careful. first point of #6 in terms of use says "You must not add content or information, including files and images that infringe any copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, or other proprietary right of any person;" so if they close your moddb account because of this dont say we didn't warn you ;-)

there is no way i can see unless Zdoom has a music def file you can make that you can point to for instance doom e2m9 and e3m1 have the same song so if you had one song for both you could have one song and the def file would tell Zdoom to use said file for both maps.

I thank you! I spent many hours deciding what to go where. I think it turned out alright and once i get working on Doom II tis will be alot more thorough in picking the songs that fit the level (such as E3M1, which of course is pantera, along with tenaments, which is also pantera) if you managed to shrink them that would be great, thats one thing i never got around to was compressing

You could do what I do; replace all the data in a wad with the music you wish to use. Mind you, if you are using actual tracks, some DAW editing is in order to get the best quality of sound. MP3s and flack seem to work too, but flack is too big and MP3 tends to lose quality, plus I've noticed they bug out sometimes in high-framerate situations. Don't know why, but still. Ogg is way better any day.

.ogg drops the quality waaaaaaay down sometimes. Its better to take your time and fiddle with them and find out what works better for that game. Doom tends to like it all

Sorry Prime79, but my connection is really slow to upload the files. If you really want to shrink them down, then convert all files to Mono and not Stereo. This will make them at least 60% smaller.

Nikulas Jul 2 2014, 5:24pm replied:

thats fine but it will not sound the same so you really need to pick and choose when you make a pk3 if you want good music or not. music packs will be huge for GZDoom/ZDoom it's the fact of the engine not the person that makes it.

On the copyright bit.
It seems to me that everyone claims "proprietary" on damn near all uploads, even when the so-called "proprietary" data isn't theirs. So how does one draw the line there.

Of course, As long as you clearly state that you do not own anything in relation to said proprietary music/data/what ever, then legally speaking you should be fine, as long as you aren't using someone elses product to sell your own.

Just my speculation is all. Even still, Kick *** choices in metal my friend.
