Description

Here are a collection of some of the finest addons for Project Brutality; they've all been touched up or tweaked in some way so that they integrate nicely together. These are packaged together in the most modular format I can manage, until I determine the best way to handle toggling options. The load order for each mutator can be determined by the number in parentheses at the beginning of the file name. It's recommend that you use ZDL and GZDoom 2.2.0x64.

If you want an Unmaker you can download Barge's Unmaker/Unmaker2.0 from which they both spawn in game if you haven't already. That Unmaker doesn't spawn naturally unfortunately.

Can you, please, bring chainsaw from latest brutal doom 20b in PB? Chainsaw in PB look ugly, has errors in sprites, and have two slashing attacks, what are basicly the same. I just dont like it at all.
This is just one thing now, what is bad in PB. And for me it is very inportant, as i am often use chainsaw to clear rooms in Brutal Doom 20b, because it is just best chainsaw i've seen in any mod so far.

Why do you want this? PB chainsaw secondary attack doesn't shake your screen and does more damage. Also, it has a badass special attack where you take out your double-barrel shotgun(if you collected one) and fire it, which is sometimes a lifesaver.

Strange, go ahead and post load order and we'll see what the cause is. The difficulty menu is defined in MAPINFO, so be aware of anything containing it's own MAPINFO (ex: UDV, for it's realism difficulties).

Also, what does the UAC Nanobot Injector do? It doesn't appear in my inventory, so I guess it's some passive item that activates at certain time?

gives you a 5 health bonus, and comes in medikits in random spawns.

Yep, thanks for answering his question, this is exactly right. It is a 5 health bonus which applies up to a maximum of 999 health.

It randomly spawns from medikits and medipacks (the 50 health ones), so it incentives you to open them up even if you have max health. Press the 'use' key to open ammo and health in Smart Scavenger.

Also, I didn't think to write a changelog, as they're included above, but informally;

there's a new weapon included: TheBarge's Commander Shotgun, tweaks have been made to the HUD to accomodate this.

Some other minor HUD changes ex: bull and pist ammo are now Hcal and Lcal.

Demon Morph Rune now = Demon Ward Rune - 75% less damage taken for 1 min.

New mutator, Balanced_SpawnProgression. This reworks Default Random to be more random, and more difficult as you progress. So it's the best of both worlds, dynamic progression + random.

Some weapon and ammo spawn chances are also better tuned. The Tri-barrrel minigun now spawns with miniguns instead of upgradespawners.

BFG damage and range has been buffed.

Some brightmap fixes.

About removing MinigunUpgrade. Are you sure there is no bug? I see that it's only added in Spawner4 mode. What about other spawning modes? I play dynamic progression (Spawner9), does that means I will never find the minigun upgrade?

Why this change was necessary anyway and why it is listed as "fix"?

Really nice work. Don't sell yourself short, Putting together all these mods in a single nice patch is no small feet and a great service to all involved. Just one suggestion, do you mind including a readme with suggested loaded mods? Or am I correct in assuming that all of them should be loaded in the presented sequential order?

That's a great idea, a readme and pdf will be included in future versions. And yes, you are correct about the load order. It's explained in the description at the very top, but I can see how it's easy to miss. There's a lot of text.

I don't know if the BrutalDoomStarter pack is a recommended map wad, but for some reason when I enable all powerups I get red soul spheres all over the map that don't do anything. i take it it doesn't like the extra powerup package. Or should the BrutalDoomStarter pack be loaded last? I had it loaded before the whole collection.

I think its correct the way it is. I picked some of the mods he created the ones I am interested only. I´ts just picking the ones you want , keep the proper order by mumber, and have it put in your ini with the current mods you have, checking if they should be beofore or after your current mods.

He already did that with the single download and making sure everything works with each other.
Just some general instructions in what mods are optional and which are highly recommended/required.

Can someone help me with some troubleshooting when it comes to altering the weapon sounds? I'm trying to replace the sounds of all the weapons that have had the doomguy pickup dialogue removed with the original PB versions, but whenever I replace the BFG sounds, instead of simply replacing it, I get absolutely no pickup sound instead. I've had no problems with the chainsaw or the plasma rifle, so I have no idea what the problem is.

I apologize if this isn't exactly the place for this, but I've also had this problem with PB overhaul, so I've been confused about this for some time now.

It looks like you're running in a 4:3 aspect ratio. Make sure you change those settings in display options.

Are you using the version of gzdoom I recommend, 2.1.1?
Are you using ZDL to load everything in the right order?
What is your Mod load order, what all are you trying to run with the mutators?
I can assure you each module is working perfectly fine for everyone else, so why don't you give me a little more information if you want me to help you?

Nope, I am not on 4:3 aspect ratio, it does this with any setting I put. And yes my load order is correct, I have all of them running except for a few things in sounds, and all in order via (#). GZDoom is on 2.1.1

Plus there is a ton of errors on startup.

Those start up errors are harmless and have nothing to do with whatever your problem is. Only thing I can suggest is to reset your gzdoom-'username'.ini by deleting it.

If that doesn't change anything, I'm not sure how I can help you. Good luck.

Confirmed. If I delete my ini UDV works, but as soon as I set my resolution (1680x1050) it gets broken again...

Question about the sprite fix for the mastermind, does this fix the crash that happens when Hellknights and spidermasterminds fight eachother? This is currently the biggest issue in the original PB that still has yet to be fixed :(. Pain said the fix would be uploaded with the update.

I'm not sure, I've never experienced the issue. If you can reproduce it and post the crash log maybe we can figure out what the cause is. It's too situational to focus energy on, so until there's a cause, you'll have to leave it to pa1ki113r.

This is a reply from painkiller a few months ago on the issue.

There was just a wrong frame skip number placed in the knight's decorate lump that when he encountered a cyberdemon/mastermind he's supposed to take steps back and then attack him (for infighting) and he went into an infinite loop, which is caught by the game engine, and therefore you get your crash. I replicated the bug you reported, happened to me too, and then fixed it :D

Alright, I'm using GZDoom 2.1.1 64bit stable, and I'm getting an error message spammed in the console when I play on classic V20B when the spawn preset is default random:

Jump target 'Spawn2' not found in vanilla_DNimpVariant1*

It seems to happen at random as well.

Nice catch, that's the toughest imp variant. He got new frames and the actor needed to be replaced so he's not being referred to properly in that spawner. I don't really pay any mind to classic or traditional modes, but I'll fix this one. Thanks for reporting this.

Hello again! I have a new suggestions for you.
1. I see, that you add commander shotgun from TheBarge. I think, you should add this shotgun to "Quad-Shotgun Sergeant" loot list, instead of vanilla sawed-off. Can you implement this in "(4)-(Weap)-CommanderBlaster.pk3" module?
2. Revolver is too imbalanced, because of pistol ammo usage. Can you add a separate ammo type for revolver? Make maximum ammo cap =100 and revolver will not be imbalanced.
3. Dual autoshotguns is way too strong. And with weapon upgrade it just breaks the game balance. Perhaps, will be better to make a new fire mode for autoshotgun or just turn off the dual fire function of weapon.
4. Black hole generator also too strong, but since it indispensable sometimes, i suggest make power cell usage 200 instead of 100. It will be a correct balance.
5. Can you change an alternative mode of submachine gun (pistol ammo) from laser pointer to silencer? I play without hud aim, and sometimes i use laser pointer on this weapon, but silencer will be better.
6. Freezer rifle have "bad" brightmaps. In dark places it make brighter all weapon sprite instead of leds and freezer tube. Can you fix that?

1. I don't think I'll be doing that because it doesn't make much sense that he drops an SSG in the first place. It also allows for there to be some differentiation in Doom1.
2. Introducing new ammo is a bad idea, there's a lot of ammo already, and smart scavenger handles all that stuff really well as it is right now. Every weapon is 'imbalanced.'
3. Dual autoshotguns is iconic, it stood out to me when the mod first started to crawl as one of the coolest things I'd seen in a doom mod. Again, even dual autoshotguns with drum mags is not imbalanced. If you play harder WADs on the hardest difficulties, you will struggle. Project Brutality monsters are freakin cheap. So it helps to have some cheap weapons.
4. This is a little more reasonable, but I'll have to test the Black hole generator, I haven't come across it in any playthroughs where I'm not playtesting so I'll keep it's ammo consumption in mind when I do.
5. You play without mouselook? The laserpointer increases the accuracy of the weapon, and things like the silencer can break certain maps. I believe the silenced pistol is only fair because of maps that start you trapped, and open to attack, with no weapons. Also it would be a lot of work to make the sprites and create another fire mode for the SMG. Cool suggestion, though.
6. I'm just using the brightmaps that were included from the overhaul. I'll take a look at them sometime when soon to see what you mean.

I will say only one thing about PB difficulties - this mod too easy for me. I play only on max difficult level and never use cheats (maybe only noclip, when i stuck in textures). Mod have only one difficult problem - maps, where you start between crossfire.

I recommend playing custom fan made wads. If you are playing the classic 4 wads then ofc its going too be easy lulz. Nothing hard about them.
