Well I listened to it while I was typing stuff out, with the lights off of course. Well, it wasn't quite what I expected. It really doesn't hold a candle to Trent Reznor's work. It was too quiet, and the ambiance was too predictable in sound, and didn't have flare to it. I would rate this 5/10. I think it can be done better. :-/

You should try playing along with the actual game, these sounds were "inspired" by the quake soundtrack i wasnt aiming for a masterpiece its only been 5 days since i started on them lol. I have more coming i hope you find them more suiting.

If I were playing the game while trying to listen to these, I wouldn't be able to hear it 80% of the time cus of how low the sound was. If you got more, I will check those out when they get released. As said before, the current tracks could be better.

the tracks are at loud volume on my system man you need to get better speakers.

How can you judge how effective music is along with a game if youre typing ******* notes and not playing the game? lol this isnt a dark ambient soundtrack for your notes.

I can visualize and imagine the music when not playing the game, it's rather simple. I think you need to check your sound settings either on your system or the audio file, cus everything else I listen to comes in pretty clear, except your material.

Listened to the MP3's and I have to agree with Valherran, it's not much... Reverb soaked ambient noises without any of the subtle beats, synths, guitar and unsettling sounds in Quake's ambient music... You're better off with the PSX / Doom 64 music!

Thanks for your contribution. I like to see more authors inspired by the "horror" aspect of Doom, as I think it makes for a far better atmosphere than generic cawkrawk. Look forward to giving this a try, and by all means ignore the wannabe Roger Eberts - please give us moar!

Honestly, I like what you did on this one. The only gripe I've is the volume. As people said, they are way too quiet. I wasn't sure if there's something wrong on my system, so I opened a audio editor and what happened? It was too quiet by itself, and you can't disapprove that as far as I'm working with sound design for almost 6 years. Anyway, I increased the volume and played the songs. They were nice, but I believe you can done them a lot better. I'll rate this 8/10. I think it's fair.

That's entirely mature. He got your point when you told him the first five times. There's no need to attempt to rub it in his face. Calm down. Give suggestions CONSTRUCTIVELY, and let it grow. It's just the beginning, and changes can always be made.

Why are you telling me to calm down? You're the one getting their panties in a twist. :-P

As the author stated himself this is just the beginning, a first draft so to say. For further development of this, I'd like to suggest something.
As for now, everything seems to be a bit random, I don't really see a special connection to Doom. As it is now, it could replace any soundtrack of any game to make it feel darker, Heretic or Hexen for example. To really make this a DOOM soundtrack, it would be great to add something familiar of the original soundtrack, but in that dark style. A string of 5 notes but very echoed, very equalized, very dark, but still that you get this feeling: Oh yeah, that's DOOM what I hear here.
So overall, you seem to have some right effects, next step is to use it on Doom material to "doomize" this. Create "Quake OST remixes" of every single Doom Song, that's what I'd LOVE to hear! To do this, you take 1-3 particular parts of an original song, you use your effects to "quakize" them and then you mix it with the material you already have and the stuff you'll get along this way. Then you can create a pk3 file that replaces the original songs, and THEN you gonna have a great DOOM addon, not just Brutal Doom, also vanilla Doom. -Just what I think about that...

those are great ideas man i think ill take some samples of the originals soundtrack and modify a little and we will see how it goes. i already have one of the tracks in mind.

using samples can be powerful, but there are many more possibilities. Sometimes it's really cool to play the same melody with another instrument, for example. As long as you can recognize a famous part of the original, everything is allowed. Oh, and about your problems with the volume: mastering can be a real pain in the *** for sure! I can give you two advices about that issue: don't listen, LOOK. The bars of your equalizer tell you everything about the spectrum of your song. and for the general volume take a close look at the volume meter of your master track, it should be right below max. Don't go over the max, this will result in aweful clipping. Carefully use a compressor to raise quiet parts and lower loud parts.
My second advice about that: listen to your song on VERY different speakers and headphones. Check it out on your surround system, play it on your TV, listen to the song with cheap headphones, with expansive headphones, even with the speaker of your smartphone. Adjust your song until it sounds great on any device you have. -Music based on electronic effects is not done in 5 minutes.

This is a good idea that can be executed better. Seeing as we've had quite a few metal remix's and so forth its about time we got something that adds and enhances ambiance like a Drone Metal soundtrack.

Hi!
Well, I found the link to this compilation from a sarge mark video on you tuve.I was not dissapointed :D I like dark ambient music and really liked this pieces, thanks for sharing it!

I can see that some people complain about this not being a WAD, but I can tell you that this have some nice pros:
+ Universal: can be used with any map wads
+ Choose your tune: pick the one you feel like listening since it is not hard-wired into the maps

Cons:
-Maybe some computers cannot cope with running a music player + doom port? not sure about it, but I have a pc with a 1st gen i5 (made in 2009) and I have no problem running GOM audio + Zandronum

The point where I agree with is that the volume is a little bit low, would be nice if I do not need to raise the volume of the audio application.
