This is an Addon to replace the current Brutal Doom 64 Skies with higher quality alternatives.
Unhappy with the level of detail on the background scenery, I did some cutting and pasting from the Doom 1 & 2 high resolution texture pack to create some better scenery. The high resolution cloud texture is a random free to use texture (Author Unknown), I also went to great lengths to improve the original fire texture backgrounds from the later levels as I could find nothing online to use as an alternative, getting them to blend was a very difficult and long process. All credits go to the Doom community responsible for the creation of the DHTP High Resolution Texture Pack available for Doom 1 & 2, and the original creator of the cloud texture.

Just unzip the "HQSkies.zip" Archive and drag the "TEXTURES" folder into the same folder as your "GZDOOM.EXE" or "ZANDRONUM.EXE". Make sure you have "Enable High Res Textures" set to "Yes" in your GZDoom or Zandronum engine, you'll find it in your "Display Options/OpenGL Options/Texture Options" menu.
Amazing. Good job).
Thanks :)
Sexy ^^ Thanks. :)
Thanks :)
great!
Oh sweet! Thank you! :D
Definitely needed this!
I wonder if Doom 64 can be slowly re-textured with SVG format? So that texture resolution wont be an issue in the future.
I must say, it looks mighty impressive from the screenshot given, but I'm not too keen on the file size. My internet speeds don't either. Might I ask why it's 250 MB for some fancy skies?
Sorry bud... That'll be the Flame sky textures, there's 450 in total due to the smooth animation, at a resolution of 256x1024.
Just marvelous!
how do i put this in gzdoom
It says in the above description.
The only way I could get this to work was renaming the file extension to .pk3 and dropping it in the skins folder. Now, when I start up the game and look up at the sky on the first level the replacement sky looks like it's been blown up causing it to look pixelated. Also found it a little disappointing that the replacement sky doesn't show Mars and Phobos(assuming it was Phobos based on shape) like the original did.
The sky on the first level is unchanged as it already looks high quality. As for your first issue, if you read the description above, you'll see it says to extract the "ZIP" file and place the "TEXTURES" folder in the same folder as your ".EXE", the reason for this is that textures in ".PK3" format are not scaled down to size, I have no idea why. I'm thinking of making it into a WAD file instead.
It does look nice but the old sky looks more sinister.
Agreed... When I have time I might take a look at making them a bit more sinister.
It doesn't seem to work in the first version of BD64. Will it not be supported there? I have set the high res textures to "yes". The textures look amazing, btw.
Disregard the previous comment I made. It was never my intent to post it. My apologies!
I can't take credit for the textures, they are part of the community made high res skys that have been floating about for years... I just did some cutting and pasting in Photoshop, but thanks, I'm glad you like them :)
good job,but don't works for me.
