BrewLAN is a mod for Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance that has been in on and off development by a team of one for almost a decade. It adds a wide variety of new units for all factions, as well as offering several new game modes and features. The core design goals for the mod are simple; to add new, interesting, and visually aesthetic units which complement those already in existence and to maximise technical compatibility with other mods.

I don't have a month in mind, but I definitely want to get something out this year.

Yeah, i thought so. Im really looking forward to play the new version, for now i will have fun with 0.7.5.5 after a long time again.

I asked for august because i thought you want to get out something this year, and also i thought you are definetely skilled enough - your mod prooves that you are skilled - to get it done in like half a year: i didnt want to sound like i doubt in the skills, but i also wished even less to seem like i want it too bad and too fast. Just take all time, the quality of this mod is one thing that makes it truely great.

Oh I chose the name Excalibur because I thought the laser looked a bit like a sacred sword, but now it's kinda inadapted :D

I was going to keep the beam because it looked more impressive, but the code for beam weapon impact calculations is considerably more complicated than for projectiles, and I wanted to make sure the engine would tolerate penetrating weapons at all before dealing with penetrating beam weapons. The engine didn't like it. At all. Lots of compromises were made. I'm not sure if doing it on a beam would be better or worse.

Description

After a steady lead by Maelstrom, Excalibur took a clear lead by the polls close. It bore the name Maelstrom for a short while whilst it also bore a beam weapon. It is however now an actual rail gun projectile weapon, with shots that pierce targets. It technically has a ballistic arc, but with by far the fasted projectile speed in the game, the projectile arc never really factors in.

As a technical restriction of the target-piercing shots, it has no damage radius; when any kind of AoE was involved, it lost the co-ordinates of where the explosion should have been, and as a result explosions where happening where it was when it made the calculation, as opposed to where it was when the impact occurred. As a result, it can only damage multiple enemies at a time when they are lined up.

It looks less cool whilst doing it, but the fact that it basically just makes explosions happen is somewhat scarier.
