In November 2010, just after Thanksgiving (in the United States), the first ever version of Blue Portals was released to the public. Now, five years later, we're ready to release it again - this time on Steam. In honor of Blue Portals' fifth birthday, we've decided to bring our first ever mod to a much larger platform with a wider audience. This Steam Anniversary Edition would come packaged with everything in the current build of Blue Portals, but with additional features:

  • Revamped assets, including brand new higher resolution textures and (possibly) new voicework.
  • Bug fixes, performance improvements, and general enhancements.
  • Easy installation, simply click to download!
  • Improved packaging - no more loose files.
  • Automatic updates (if needed).
  • Steam achievements and cloud saves.
  • Soundtrack available for free (composed by The Hamster Alliance)!

If Greenlit, we would of course need some time to make our improvements and changes and implement new features - but when we're done it will be release for free just as it was five years ago! You can click the banner below to vote for us on Greenlight!

As always, thanks for the support and happy testing!

We're working on bringing this to Steampipe. Not that anybody will check this.

And we're including the Anniversary Map Pack with it (not to be confused with the sixteen thousand other things).

Portal and other Source-engine games are being ported to Linux and being updated to use the .VPK rather than .gcfs (which should load things faster and whatnot). This has the potential to break a bunch of mods, so Blue Portals is sort of a test bed for making sure things will still work properly after this sequence of updates comes through.

The dlls are shared with Portals so yes, it should "work" one way or another.

However, Valve plans to update most or all of their games with the vpk format. We do not plan to release any updates, fixes until that day has come. Who knows, BP may be un-playable by then, or we will have the same issue we had with Blue Portals 2.

There is absolutely no way at all for us to even remotely know that.

As long as Valve doesn't screw up Portal, it should work fine.

What made Portal great was while it was certainly challenging it was easy once you figured out what to do. The main problem with basically any Portal mod i've played is that you know what to do but no matter what you do you can't do it. Any Portal mod that requires crouch jumping, having two portals next to each other and forming a circle that makes you go higher is just frustrating to play in my honest opinion. Sadly this mod falls in the same category as Portal Prelude and Gamma Energy, really…

I only give it that few points because it's mainly about jumping!
You have to jump here an hour and there! You have to think for half a minute to get the solution but half an hour to xecute it, because its only about difficult jumping that has to do with a big load of luck! not more. Many ideas are awesome but that jumping sucks and ruins everything
