Bloodstone - Release Version 1.0.1.1317
Jun 04, 2008 Full Version 16 commentsThis is the Gold Master version of "Bloodstone - The Journey Home". Eventhough this mod is meant for Episode 1, you can play it without owning Episode...
Bloodstone: The Journey Home is a third person role-playing total conversion of Valve’s Half Life 2 - Episode One, using the Source engine. In this modification, Khrinz, a common farm boy is plunged into an unknown world of magic and deceit, on the brink of an unstoppable invasion by a technologically advanced race.
The player must lead our hero through the mysterious land of Darynia in search of the fabled bloodstone, a powerful gem that has the ability to create portals to other planes of existence, whilst also discovering their innate magical powers, so that they may defend themselves from the sinister and evil creatures of the world.
This power can either be used to fuel mystical and powerful spells of the arcane, or infuse deadly weapons with the force of the elements. As the player grows in experience, more potent spells and abilities are unlocked, to use against the ever increasing number of enemies.
Darynia is a fully realized fantasy world where the player will become immersed in an enriching storyline, driving the player’s actions, and pushing their emotions to the limit.
“It’s not the blood that courses through your veins that defines what type of person you are; it’s the decisions you make, on the journey of life.”
- Nienna, Princess of the Graymir Elves.

Just to give you an update, the mod is in its final stages but will not be released as predicted on 1st May. I have changed it to TBD for the moment but it will be released im pretty sure (99%) before the end of May.
The game is fully playable atm and has all content/features in (roughly 6-10 hours playtime). We are just fixing bugs etc and making it more stable before we release it to the public.

I have tried a few times and it just crashes every time at some deer.
Found out my problem. I think at least. I realized that it only would crash if I left clicked. So I did nothing and watched some guy go to a yellow thign and now I am at the menu screen.
I've been playing and watched lots of people play the game on the machine at the show at the Cube Gallery in Manchester this week. And so far there were only sparse crashes as long as the players kept playing the game the way it is supposed to be played. As long as people keep their inventory empty and don't try to test the games stability, it it at least playable.
If it does crash, all you need to do is restart the game and press F7. If it does crash in the loadingscreen, this might be a problem because that's where the game is saved but the only reason for a loading screen crash that i've witnessed so far is when the player had a full inventory. That should be avoided at the moment.
You can backup the savedata.dat in the main bloodstone folder while not in the game to keep a safety backup.
Considering the look of the game. Unfortunately the Village and the Wilderness were the first levels we did. You will see this, once you enter the Valley. We have learned a lot from the mistakes we made in the first levels and the Valley levels do look a lot better and a lot more polished.
But that is just one of the lessons you learn producing a game of this magnitude(16 levels) and complexity(RPG) on the Source engine. Nobody can realistically expect Crysis-like graphics in outdoor levels on the source engine, that is just not possible.
Hey guys...congrats on completing CVG. I've downloaded and will play and leave some feedback when I get some free time next week.
This mod is damn fun! But... It needs more work. The animations need work, there is a lot of clipping inside the village, The inventory button doesn't work after you change it from i. I had to quit the game because i got stuck on the ceiling fighting the rats in the basement. One of the docks outside the village has no texture. Also, every time I jump, another crosshair shows up and goes away. When i leave the village and come back it gets stuck on sprint. Besides that, I'm loving it. Its really fun, congrats!
I agree, good mod but feels way too much like a beta with all the bugs. Hopefully next version will be much better.
FYI the buttons aren't designed to be changed... so thats why your inventory button broke :p

I'm guessing that carrying more than half full of your inventory causes the game to crash during a map change, therefore killing your save. Try avoiding this at all costs.
model consolidation might help this problem
