Ever wanted to see Chip's Challenge-like gameplay in the 2.5d Doom engine? Look no further! Blocks of Doom II is a top-down gameplay mod for ZDoom (and perhaps Skulltag) that approximates the gameplay of the 1992 DOS game Chip's Challenge. I say approximates, it doesn't totally replicate it. There's plenty of new obstacles and beasts to overcome, and the puzzles, like Chip's Challenge, are at times incredibly frustrating - not necessarily because they're hard to solve, but that everything is out to get you, and you only have 1 precious health point! Did I mention there's a timelimit, too? There's not a lot of activity within the development team at the moment, so I'm hoping to recruit some extra contributors by posting here. :) I've gotten good feedback so far, but for this project to flourish we need a few more contributors to speed up level production! Due to the nature of this project, you don't need to know anything about mapping, just a little ZDoom scripting. :D

im using zdoom 2.3.1 and it says:
Script error, "j-blocks2v02.wad:DECORATE" line 241:
"bouncetype" is an unknown actor property
Oops, sorry farcry. You'll have to use a subversion of ZDoom.
r1599 or later will run the WAD fine. Get the latest (just to be safe) here: svn(dot)drdteam(dot)org.
ok i got it working, it was fun but the turning seems a little weird
If you want, you can download an alpha of v0.3 which has free camera rotation. Just bind a key in the Customize Controls menu to "free camera rotation", and then, after pressing the key in-game, you should be able to turn the mouse on every axis around the player. :)
Thanks for the feedback. ;)
yeah that's much better, the normal turning with the arrow keys seems unresponsive, you have to hold it down for a second for it to turn, and turning like that makes the levels harder to navigate. the free camera mode works a lot better.
btw love the chips shallenge music!
hmm i dont see a texture for gravel and the key doors all appear as black
For the gravel problem: are you running it with Doom II? I think the gravel uses Doom-II-only textures.
I'm not sure about the key doors. In the latest alpha they use a clever Translation technique that basically recolors the texture in-game rather than having a uniquely-colored texture for each of the doors, although I don't know how that could mess up for you. Post exactly what you're doing, please. (What version of ZDoom/Blocks II, what renderer, where this happens, etc.)
:)
ok everything works fine using the doom 2 iwad
