First off, allow us to apologize for our prolonged absence - we've had much to contend with and it's been a very exciting (and sometimes turbulent) year for us.

However, we are happy to announce the launch of a devblog for our new game, BEACON, a sci-fi action roguelike coming to PC. We know this might not be your cup of tea as it is very different from Black Snow, but give us a chance to impress you. And if it happens to be right down your alley, then by all means follow us along the development of the game and chime in to give your feedback as we create the product together!

So what's up with the lights at the corridor?

Yes, but that only happens till the locker room, no? I have never seen the corridor lights coming on from that point. I could see light coming out from the infirmary door so I was able reach that door but from that comlete darkness on the corridor.

The lights will go in a circle, it will keep continuing on pass the locker room then come around again.

Well that makes sense.. no actually it doesn't.
And whats up with the heaters that suddenly stop working, does my heat absorbing skin screw the machine up... I just don't think I like these weirdness, artificial difficulty.
And that rebar, why is it that everything so far had a icon that tells you can pick something up, yet that did not. If you establish something as a important gameplay element but decide not to have it for something that is essential to progress the game is a major screw up.

As I have mentioned below, this is a bug that we missed during playtest and will be addressed with a patch. The heater stopped working in some places because the facility is operating below baseline, which is why not all lights are functional as well. I'm sorry if this have caused you difficulties in playing the mod.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing inherently wrong with making a puzzle based mod for hl2. The potential is huge like you've shown with the graphics overhaul and new items galore, simply taking away any weapons is easy and fine with me. Evasion styled gameplay for enemies can really amp up the fear factor unlike any other type of gameplay, I just thought that in the end the puzzles weren't very intuitive. Like getting key somehow magically makes the kitchen shutter slightly open? A lantern you can't pick up after finding out that those things are afraid of light? A random bunch of numbers on xrays that you play a guessing game with? A bug oversight is fair enough it can happen, but for a pickup able item in a mod based around finding specific items is noneless frustrating. I won't crucify you for that but there is something here that needs to be said... Logic dictates puzzles, having only one thin strand of logic that is the "correct one" with the rest being wrong is what killed the adventure game genre (or rather made it commit suicide). The way of revolutionizing the genre means having more than one way to proceed, either more than one item/tool or even better, more than one path.

Sometimes you have to balance realism with plot or creative license. While that may sound like an excuse for sloppy, ****** writing; (which this mod does not have btw.) sometimes it just has to happen.

I understand where you are coming from, the oddity of those puzzles are intentional, I myself am not a big fan of guessing games either. I was counting on more people to discover this in the locker room and look it up after the play so it would justify the odd occurences but here it is :

Black Snow NAILS atmosphere and makes you feel vulnerable and alone. As a part of a rescue team dispatched to a research complex in the middle of the tundra. The mod started off well enough, you got tension and mystery. You had to explore well and it gave you a indication of what you can pick up. The annoyance starts with this arbitrary light switching that makes zero sense why it changes like that, and if your left in the dark you end up being chased around and stuck inside a room with that thing right outside, forcing you to reload without a chance. It moves really fast so you end up dying without a fighting chance as soon as you make a mistake. Then…
