Run. Think. Shoot. Live. Source. Black Mesa is the Half-Life 2 total conversion of the original Half-Life game. Utilizing the Source engine and its endless array of possibilities and powers, Black Mesa will throw you into the world that started the Half-Life continuum and introduced Gordon Freeman to the world as a gun-toting, bullet-dodging Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics.
I didn't expect to enjoy Black Mesa that much, I of course loved to play Half Life in the late 90's when it came out, but wasn't ever such a big fan of Half Life 2 and its expansions. Moreover it's not that rare to see old games ported into newer engines, and lets be honest it usually sucks mostly because modders lack the ressources to make things right.
Black Mesa left me stunned though. First off you can see the level of attention developers put into that mod, this is just beautiful, I didn't know the Souce engine could look that good while remaining coherent and sparing us all the next gen ****** post processing effects. This alone was worth the wait.
Gameplay mechanics are old school but it works greats, it's smooth, fast and very enjoyable. I finished it in the hardest difficulty right away and felt a level of satisfaction playing this I haven't felt for quite a long time. I truly can't wait for them to release the missing part of the campaign.
Feels great to play something true in this world dominated by generic and casual shooters designed for low life console players with no real challenge to offer.
I bet those guys downrating Black Mesa had no idea what crouchjump is, and felt so stupid and ignorant they just wanna trash the game in return. Kinda like that "famous" fat British ****** on his youtube channel. You guys should stick to consoles.
Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the half-life games personally, but I put a few hours into this just out of curiosity and what they've done here is extremely impressive. I wish I'd been a bigger Half Life fan just so I could have enjoyed this game more. I will, however, be trying to find a good Let's Play of it at some point so someone much more into the game can point out all the cool Easter eggs and such for me.
