Run. Think. Shoot. Live. Source.

Black Mesa is the Half-Life 2 total conversion of the original Half-Life game. Utilizing the Source engine and its endless array of possibilities and powers, Black Mesa will throw you into the world that started the Half-Life continuum and introduced Gordon Freeman to the world as a gun-toting, bullet-dodging Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics.

Black Mesa was built and founded on the principle that Half-Life: Source did not do the original title enough credit, regardless of the true intentions laid out with the release of Half-Life: Source by Valve Software. Subsequently in November 2004, Black Mesa was founded and set out to reconstruct the original title, giving it the new environments, models, and abilities it deserved on the Source engine. This total conversion will not require Half-Life: Source installed on your system to play, only a legitimate and working version of Half-Life 2. At the present time, Valve Software is not associated or involved with the development of this project.

Here is a small list of planned features of Black Mesa:

    * Redesign and overhaul of all 18 chapters, the hazard course and deathmatch levels of the original Half-Life and Half-Life DeathMatch games.
    * Models now take advantage of increased polycount limits and normal mapping technology making deadly opponents and friendly coworkers appear more real.
    * A completely original soundtrack and music library bringing Half-Life's themes and feelings to life in the new sounds engine built into the Source Engine.
    * Artifical Intelligence that will hunt you by sight and sound.
    * Normal, bump and specular maps built into textures giving flat surfaces a new, more dynamic look.
    * Co-operative mode, allowing you and your friends to play through Black Mesa together.
    * The entire cast and characters that the world fell in love with more beauty than ever before, bringing truth to the saying, "if looks could kill..."
    * A multiplayer mode allowing for deathmatch and team deathmatch experience with the complete Half-Life 1/Black Mesa Aresonal at your disposal.
    * A priority on gameplay and immersion factors such as sounds, functionality and interaction.
    * Built by developers who's passion is seen through the quality of their work.

This mod is not dead, we are still hard at work on it.

The wait was just long enough for all kinds of crazy bets to be made, but time to cash those in, because the Black Mesa Trailer is good to go and up for viewing! You can download the high resolution version straight off of Monkey-Junkie's website and or stream it right here on ModDB. We hope this gives you a small taste of what the game will be like, and we hope it was worth the extra wait!

We also forgot to include some great Power Up shots by Kim Dahlgren, so be sure and check those out on our media page! This officially concludes our media release, but not future updates! And as stated in the trailer, the days this mod stays in development are truly numbered. Hang tight, because at long last, it is coming.

@neo

Here are my thoughts on that. IT'S GAY. What benefit do you get out of releasing a game that was never meant to be in episodic form? The different chapters of HL intertwine seamlessly and having to break them up between levels is not only time consuming, but a waste. On top of that, you'd be given chapters that are just plain dull. Consider joining the forums and you'll get an idea of why I say these things.

Rome wasnt built in a day.

Valve never keep they're own release dates. And they get paid for it!

Well, I am patient. I just hope that you'll able to complete this wonderful Half-Life redesign.
-Oh, but please heed my warning: unexpected -system crushes- can come, so back up all of your files!
-I say this, because I heard about HL mods wich died because os system crushes...

Hmm, I guess I was misinformed on the forums then. :-p
You should set up a system for donations, you'd make alot of money towards a "behind the scenes fund" and also a little cash for your selves ;-)

It would also help us pay for some behind the scenes stuff, for example web hosting and space, among many other new things.

Episode One was an official game with a huge team and money backing it. This is a mod. Maybe if you shut your mouth and be patient, they'll hurry it up.

Well, I wouldn't mind it =/ - Although we're not doing it for profit, a little cash never hurt anyone! :P

We don't have an official donations system though and we wouldn't accept cash until that was organized.
