Run. Think. Shoot. Live. Source.

Black Mesa is the Half-Life 2 total conversion of the original Half-Life game. Utilizing the Source engine and its endless array of possibilities and powers, Black Mesa will throw you into the world that started the Half-Life continuum and introduced Gordon Freeman to the world as a gun-toting, bullet-dodging Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics.

Black Mesa was built and founded on the principle that Half-Life: Source did not do the original title enough credit, regardless of the true intentions laid out with the release of Half-Life: Source by Valve Software. Subsequently in November 2004, Black Mesa was founded and set out to reconstruct the original title, giving it the new environments, models, and abilities it deserved on the Source engine. This total conversion will not require Half-Life: Source installed on your system to play, only a legitimate and working version of Half-Life 2. At the present time, Valve Software is not associated or involved with the development of this project.

Here is a small list of planned features of Black Mesa:

    * Redesign and overhaul of all 18 chapters, the hazard course and deathmatch levels of the original Half-Life and Half-Life DeathMatch games.
    * Models now take advantage of increased polycount limits and normal mapping technology making deadly opponents and friendly coworkers appear more real.
    * A completely original soundtrack and music library bringing Half-Life's themes and feelings to life in the new sounds engine built into the Source Engine.
    * Artifical Intelligence that will hunt you by sight and sound.
    * Normal, bump and specular maps built into textures giving flat surfaces a new, more dynamic look.
    * Co-operative mode, allowing you and your friends to play through Black Mesa together.
    * The entire cast and characters that the world fell in love with more beauty than ever before, bringing truth to the saying, "if looks could kill..."
    * A multiplayer mode allowing for deathmatch and team deathmatch experience with the complete Half-Life 1/Black Mesa Aresonal at your disposal.
    * A priority on gameplay and immersion factors such as sounds, functionality and interaction.
    * Built by developers who's passion is seen through the quality of their work.

This mod is not dead, we are still hard at work on it.

As promised, the Black Mesa team is proud to present "Stage 2," the final stage of our media release. This time around, you'll see some new and updated media shots in many areas. In response to community critiques, we've updated the Glock and Mp5 weapons, the outdoor area at the start of Residue Processing, and the Gargantua render. We also have lots of new material to give you, including a high poly model of one of our grunt variations, more shots of Blast Pit, Anomalous Materials, Lambda Core, and an animation of our Houndeye. Several updates to the site have also taken place, courtesy of our new dedicated web designer, Brett Alton.

The Black Mesa team has made the decision not to release any ingame videos for "Stage 2." We are going to save this footage for a much more opportune time, to be revealed in the coming months. You'll thank us for it later, we promise!

here's a taste of our new media, as always, catch it ALL at Blackmesasource.com !

You can't give out on us now, you've been in production since 2004. Why have you stoped production? Did the team fall apart or somthing?

Ofcurse I can. I do all the time, but didn't you read Kаlashnikov's post, he said the mod has stoped the production (althogh they could come back). Don't think I'm becoming a troll, but Kаlashnikov is one of the DEV's and he just stated that the mods production has stoped. I am not a troll, I fucking hate troll posts, they are the most iritating things in the world. I was just asking why they stoped the production. And suggesting to hand it over to another team, instead of letting it die.

Though they are most likely not going to die, we all know BMS is better than that. Right?

If you guys can't work on the mod any more then hand it over to another team. This project is to great to leave, you can't just let it die.

I don't know who is the most obnoxious, annoying and stupid... The trolls or the majority of the rabid fanbase?

Either way, I see no reason why they would not post the devblog here as well, or at least show something that they also have shown in the devblog (That would not have them stop all work on the mod, as a huge update would, and it would please EVERYONE, except the determined trolls)... They seem to make such a huge deal about updating moddb. I say, stop that, because it isn't (Afraid of not living up to expectations? Well, keeping it so hush-hush like this only builds it up more, leading to the whole game being dismissed as just living on hype and scares of the less then fanatic crowd, which breeds hordes rabid fanboys and trolls). Really, all that matters is if you do want good PR or not? Well, make the little news you hand out more visible, and put them here, as well.

Oh, and the answer for question one is: Both.
