Run. Think. Shoot. Live. Source.
Black Mesa is the Half-Life 2 total conversion of the original Half-Life game. Utilizing the Source engine and its endless array of possibilities and powers, Black Mesa will throw you into the world that started the Half-Life continuum and introduced Gordon Freeman to the world as a gun-toting, bullet-dodging Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics.
Black Mesa was built and founded on the principle that Half-Life: Source did not do the original title enough credit, regardless of the true intentions laid out with the release of Half-Life: Source by Valve Software. Subsequently in November 2004, Black Mesa was founded and set out to reconstruct the original title, giving it the new environments, models, and abilities it deserved on the Source engine. This total conversion will not require Half-Life: Source installed on your system to play, only a legitimate and working version of Half-Life 2. At the present time, Valve Software is not associated or involved with the development of this project.
Here is a small list of planned features of Black Mesa:
This mod is not dead, we are still hard at work on it.

Hello Black Mesa fans!
We come to you once again with an update. It's now the end of 2009, and we know many of you have literally counted the days down until this fateful month. We are floored by the level of support you have given us and are very excited we're so close to reaching our goal.
Unfortunately, to our great disappointment, Black Mesa will not make a 2009 release.
Cynics may now rejoice, bets may be collected, and I think a mod team member has to eat his shoe, but we hope our loyal fans will forgive us and realize that the delay will translate into a better final product that's (hopefully) more easily available to everyone.
Once again we apologize for what has to be very disappointing news. We placed a 2009 deadline on ourselves to motivate us and bring this 6 year project to a close. And while we didn't quite make it, we have come very close and you can expect a complete, polished game to hit your hard drives in the near future. We'll be sure and update if anything changes. Until then, hang tight, it's coming!

So ! Black Mesa got delayed like almost every game in gaming history. I'm glad to notice that most of us got over it very maturely. By the way, have you ever noticed how movies don't get delayed like games do ?
I don't think films take as much time to make as games do.
I'm not sure, but a CGI fest like Transformers or the upcoming Avatar must have an impressive workload. And CGI comes with the randomness of computers as well.
will you use the voicing acting from half life: 1?
nvm watched trailer :P
(buried)
I hate how Black Mesa is always rank #1 on Moddb.com.
Please people, I mean no offense. :)
Can't do nothing, since Black Mesa is a remake of one of the most popular games ever made.

I will expect to see this mod by the time hl3 comes out :p
I'll march to the end of the earth :)
