They add more detail. HL1 had very basic and unrealistic map detail. Black mesa is a remake of the game but updating it by adding more detail and realistic textures. It's a fantastic conversion in my opinion. :D

Just curious, why do they look misplaced? If you look on the front (or back) of any industrial building you'll see inset windows. In my actual level, you can't see through the windows, and the indoor level is nowhere near the windows, so it is true to the original in the sense that no light from an outside source is cast into the facility itself. I also felt that it was a necessary detail and taking it away would make it look a bit uninteresting.

About the metal silo:

I've taken that out because the original puzzle made absolutely no sense, and would have resulted in water flooding the facility which somehow didn't happen. I have another puzzle planned for this area.

This game is going to be the ultimate..

I really don't mind the windows at all. And like you said ^^^ the windows make it look like an authentic industrial building. I think if the placement of the windows were anywhere else on the side of the building, it would look a bit out of place. It makes sense to have those on the ground level.

Even though you guys are remaking HL, the level designs itself will help it to feel like a totally different one. As long as the main plot and major events stay true to the original, I have no issues at all deviating a bit in detail. In fact, I don't really see it any more as a deviation, but rather an improvision.

I'm probably gonna sob like a damn baby when I finish this game. You guys couldn't have formed a more talented team to create such an incredible mod. I really look forward to this and I hope you all don't call it quits after black mesa is complete.

hi all, I just joined the mod-db just to post here, since I am too eagerly awaiting for this mod to complete!!

What I see is windows placed on support pillars and that confuses my simple mind!

mb place the windows in the wall between the pillars and see what it looks like. Also the projection of the half top of the building makes it more interesting but is a bit odd from a constuction point of view, but it aint bad.

very nice screenshot, but move the windows if you want to keep them, or make the "pillars" look less like pillars.

while i think a little more, i didnt like they bigass metal pipe.. Abe you are absolutely right about that thing where BLack Mesa wouold have got flooded, you really think of realism here. But those windows i think are the wrong model, remember the model from HL2 where you see Kleiner through a window when you get teleported, that one should look nice.. But im not the "boss" or anything but i mean you could try :P Anyway you do a great job.

Current windows aren't a model. =>

I know what you're talking about though, I can modify them to look more industrial.

The earthy tone it really lookls like the wall has been there for decades. The touch of lime on the wall form possible water leaks along the seam of the wall where it meets the lip of the ledge. The windows don't bother me, it kinda makes sense actually. A person would want to look out and see "something" other then concretre walls. As for the giant pipe, I never really thought of it that way, damn good job dude. I can't wait to see how you substitute the pipe for another puzzle.
