I don't think I have ever saw barrels that shiny in a game before. However, that's a good thing, because why shouldn't there be clean, non-rusty barrels?
barrels containing highly flammable substances need to be in the most pristine condition to avoid an accidental explosion and to clearly state something along the lines of "HAY, GUISE! I R A SHINY BARRUL (roll)! SHUT MI AND I GO BEWM!" in case you thought it was a regular barrel by accident :D
I agree, Another reason they might be that clean is because its another part of the black mesa facility that is made to be the cleanest of all of the base, As you can see. This Part of the base has some of the most important aspects including the teleports that make teleportation possible. Its probably the most important part of the base overall in my opinion. They cant have the barrels rusting or they might explode or leak inside the machinary causing something to go wrong like the teleport might explode.

I definitely think that you should consider the Vortigaunts.
Half-life 2 Vortigaunts were intentionally more friendly looking,
The Vortigaunts in Half-Life should be menacing, even scary.
I especially like the way the Opposing force Aliens looked =)
These aliens are Soldiers, Hunters and killers,
Not allies.
Just keep that in mind,

Kinda what blue drake said, i think you should put the little Nova green bands around the neck and arms, just like in hl1, and somehow make them a ragdoll part of the model, that would be just plain awesome

To bad there is no gravity gun in the mod so one could shoot thos extremely shiny barrels at the vort.
Also including possbile filtering rooms to prevent anyone from going into the area from contaminating the hole process. Cleaning the person going into a small room before entering the hole area. ( Possible add ons i suggest for who ever is making this mod.
