Run. Think. Shoot. Live. Source. Black Mesa is the Half-Life 2 total conversion of the original Half-Life game. Utilizing the Source engine and its endless array of possibilities and powers, Black Mesa will throw you into the world that started the Half-Life continuum and introduced Gordon Freeman to the world as a gun-toting, bullet-dodging Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics.

Why couldn't Valve have put this much detail into Half-Life 2? They created an engine and only used about 25% of its true potential in their game that people were paid to make, while this, a fan-made mod made for free, uses close to 100% of it.

Because Valve wanted to make HL2 accessible to a broad range of users, especially users on low-end systems. And would it have even made a difference if HL2's maps were as detailed (...) as this screenie?

Yeh I do find it disappointing that Valve didn't use Source to its fullest potential, but Bushman is right that HL2 was designed to be accessible to low end machines. Maybe the Black Mesa team should work on renovating HL2 next? :P

I think in that version you even enjoy the 20 minutes of driving the tram to your working place.
