The original texture wasn't very realistic. You have to understand, this isn't an exact inch-for-inch remake with better models and textures. It's a retooling of the game. While the levels will have the same basic layout (like this one), the props and details will likely be different because of the abilities of Source.
But desert camo isn't just from the original game, it's logical in the desert (not white camo on grunts, though).

White camo (Urban camo kind of lol) because of the Urban environment in the facility.

Desert camo is usually used for overseas warfare, not necessarily an internal conflict on american soil.

Absolutely fantastic. I love how you take a simple image of, say, a catwalk and add things that other people wouldn't even think of. Amazing work.
I remember this bit, kept dying from the tank. I don't think the plane was a good choice though, because although it looks nice I don't think it would be flying that low to drop bombs (assuming that's what it's doing) or for any other reason.
I'm pretty sure the plane is there just to give an idea of how it looks in action (sorta). If they made it high then you wouldn't be able to see it as well.

for some odd reason, I don't think that the buildings paint job should look so clean, I mean the Black mesa building should look a little more weathered. I mean the texture looks to pristine to be an actual building.

Seeing this part of HL1 redone in HD makes me cry, but it's nostalgic cry mixed with a unfortunatelly this mod still not playable cry!!!
If anything Id recommended both urban & desert MARPAT camo. Since the HMCU was to an extent already prepared for an operation in black mesa the HMCU would be split into 2 designated units or groups. In HL Decay its more or less implies that the military was prepared to respond to an emergency at Black Mesa at a moments notice.
Desert camo grunts would secure the surface installations & the surrounding landscape to create a secure perimeter & the urban camo ones would sweep the interior complex.
Tis a logical compromise to the dilemma of urban classic & logical desert camo.
