Its not equipped, I used to think it was part of the hand but it was actually separate, that's how Gordon is able to use it.

The changes actually look great, Half life 1 was a bit cartoony. Just look at how much the Vortigaunt has changed between half life 1 and half life 2.

combine vortigaunt nice! i love the artwork, its so well done! and the almost nazi-like style of the helmet is a nice touch too
Niether Combine nor Vortigaunt. It is an engineered species created by the big king of Xen (Nihilanth) to be soldiers, known as Alien (or Xen) Grunts.
I hope the release one will be bulkier like the original. These things were engineered on Xen to be soldiers after all.
These guys were bulky and should be kept bulky.
