Greetings everyone. This is my final project to finish "uncutting" Black Mesa. Though I thought the cuts to Surface Tension were far more severe in terms of them harming Black Mesa as an overall package, On a Rail was shortened from 10 maps in HL1 to 3 maps in Black Mesa. While the BM Devs tried hard to streamline and cut down the experience, it still felt overall lacking in terms of its progression as Gordon's journey towards the rocket. This mod is for those of you who want Black Mesa's On a Rail to be lengthened. There will be 2 versions released; OaR Uncut Lite (extends OaR by 2 maps, making it longer than Black Mesa's version but not too long) and OaR Uncut Full (extends OaR by 4 maps, making it as long as it was in HL1). As with Surface Tension Uncut my aim is for seamless integration with Black Mesa's existing campaign, so you won't even know you're playing an add-on. This mod is currently in very early development - alpha testing is soon to begin.

Description

This release contains the full beta version of On a Rail Uncut, comprising the maps A1, A2, B1, and B2. These maps integrate seamlessly with Black Mesa and have been refined a lot from their Alpha versions. It restores On a Rail back to roughly its full length from Half-Life 1, adding lots of cool scripted sequences and memorable moments which were missing from Black Mesa's version. To install, simply unzip to your BMS folder, after reading the readme in detail! Enjoy, and feel free to leave me as much feedback as you want!

This pack brings back most locations of the original 'On a rail' Chapter, implanting those maps seamless into the current Black Mesa. What really sticks out is the additional location of a large outside train yard which offers an intense battle with the HECU-Forces and sniper fire, full of surprising details and events. I spend half an hour exploring that area, even considered it's not running perfectly stable, I really enjoyed this addition; it even kinda tames the following events of the rocket launch area.

Textfamguy1, thank you! Going to test it now. ST was succesfull to me, so now OaR.
On a rail was short indead, just like ST. The best chapters from the whole game imho.

This was a great addition! Big improvement to the chapter. Especially loved the big outdoors area -- creeping through storage units under starlight with the helicopters flying overhead, knowing the action was going to kick in soon and wondering where it was going to strike from. Highly atmospheric.

I was pleasantly surprised when realise that great open site looks like analogue to that small area with sniper in the nest before the rocket.

I posted this yesterday on the main page:

I'm sorry to say that there will be no final version. I'm no longer working on On a Rail Uncut, on account of having joined the Black Mesa Dev Team. You can find my announcement here:

Forums.blackmesasource.com

I may return to this little mod some day, when my commitments to BMS are a bit more relaxed. We'll see. Most likely not, but that option is open.

Regardless, when I released it, the Beta for OaRU was the finest piece of work I've ever created. I'm very proud of it, for all its problems. I hope the community liked it too, even in its beta state.

I'm sure that's why he was hired.

He said in a Vlog that the only reason the original maps weren't full (ST at least) was because the designer of those levels had to drop out of the team under good terms.

I am confident that at least ST Uncut will be added in.

Maybe not OaR because of how long and overall hated it was, even though the mod was alright.

Keep in mind he isn't allowed to tell people what's included in the final mod as per Valve's NDA.
Only under Valve's permission can he really say anything.

Though I am not sure why he just blabbed about working on Gasworks.

I didn't "just blab" about anything. I said that 2 months ago. Our lead designer, Stormseeker had already told people I was working on Gasworks, so it was already out there. I wouldn't still be on the team if I weren't meant to say that!

And it's not why I was hired. I was hired to design multiplayer maps. That's what I'm doing.

Um, how do I raise the damn security gates in the underground? I've been hopping around this part for an hour and there's no switch to be found (unlike the original, in which the switch was right next to the gate). Help?
