Black Mesa: Hazard Course is an add-on for the Source Engine mod Black Mesa, featuring a completely new perspective on Half-Life's Hazard Course. The Black Mesa Hazard Course will feature:

-New HD models & textures
-New dialogue & voice acting
-New maps and detailed environments
-Expanded intro, similar to Half-Life's PS2 version

Since this is a community project, we welcome people to help out in any way, from suggestions to fan-made content. Currently we are looking for people to fill these positions:


Any suggestions (within reasonable bounds, of course) are also welcome from anybody!

Media Policy

Remember that great mod, Black Mesa? Anyone familiar with the Black Mesa mod and its agonizing development cycle may remember long periods of media blackout. Since this is a community project rather than a full-fledged modding team, we are pleased to announce that, unlike the original mod, it will be our policy to strive to be as open as possible with the development process! 

That's right. Expect to see half-finished areas, heavy WiPs and lots of orange and gray "dev" textures!

We do, however, announce this policy with a disclaimer: We hope that all of our followers will try their best to be as mature as possible, and realize that due to the open nature of our development process, the vast majority of media that will be released will NOT be fully representative of the final product.

This can be a good thing! It allows YOU, the followers, to give feedback early, so that we can make easy changes to give YOU what you want!

So criticize away! Just keep it civil!

Is this mod dead?

If you're reading this, then no. There is no point in letting a project die without notice. If we were to die, we'd be sure to let you know, however we have absolutely zero plans on doing so, and the mod is currently going strong.

Hello again, ModDB. It's been a few months since our last big update. Sorry to leaf you in the dark, but heading back to our roots we're gonna bark up a storm of progress as we branch off to a new milestone. Tree.

We're happy to say that Hazard Course has entered its third and final Alpha phase! Not only is this a very nice milestone, but also one that we were actually able to meet our deadlines for. Shocker, right? (Especially, after that Alpha 2 stint...) Regardless, despite the last few months being filled with work, exams, and Building Managers incapable of delivering furniture on time instead of a month late, we met our goal. As a bit of celebration, we come bearing gifts.

Battery Room

Keeping with the paradigm of previous Alpha announcements, we're ready to accept another couple of testers. We're once again resetting the tester queue and anyone interested should apply (even if you've already applied in the past). Space is very, very limited, however, so don't be discouraged if you don't get accepted. We're mostly still in school, it can be hard for us to manage groups of people with feedback, you know! If you're interested, hit up the Tester listing on our jobs page and read the terms thoroughly. This will be the last version that we'll be accepting new testers, as we feel our current team is suitable.

Well if your taking off the wall suggestions, you could always have the AI go batsh*t crazy and start trying to kill you a-la-glados along with a couple of secret areas or maps. :-p

There wasn't an AI in Black Mesa, just a VOX system that relay and announce message from computer

Take your time and don't try to just copy the original Hazard Course. Like the BM Team and the ST Uncut pack, try to be creative. Don't hesitate to totally rebuild a map if necessary.

It will be a pity that you do this mistake as the Black Mesa : Uplink leader did with his mod.

There are already some extensive modifications to the levels. We have some pretty cool and/or pretty fun things up our sleeve as well. If we can get everything working as planned, I should think that this has the potential to end up being more than a simple remake. ;)

I am reassured !

Of course you're not the same team that the one of ​BM : Uplink, but me and other fans became nervous about the others extension of Black Mesa. Particulary since Uplink is done (And also since we heard about "The Shift" and "Black Mesa : Blue-Shift", two mods for Blue-Shift with one guy only for each, when there is already Guard of Duty since some years).

Uplink is definitely a big deception, and has (exept for one or two place) the same maps than the original Uplink. And I don't talk of all bugs and problems that this mod adds to Black Mesa.

So that's why I warning you guys. I just don't want to see the same potential be destroyed a second time. You have all the time that you needed, so take your time and create the best source version of the Hazard Course !
