Overview

Black Mesa: Hazard Course is an add-on for the Source Engine mod Black Mesa, featuring a completely new perspective on Half-Life's Hazard Course. The Black Mesa Hazard Course will feature:

-New HD models & textures
-New dialogue & voice acting
-New maps and detailed environments
-Expanded intro, similar to Half-Life's PS2 version

Since this is a community project, we welcome people to help out in any way, from suggestions to fan-made content. Currently we are looking for people to fill these positions:

-Animator
-Choreographer

Any suggestions (within reasonable bounds, of course) are also welcome from anybody!

Media Policy

Remember that great mod, Black Mesa? Anyone familiar with the Black Mesa mod and its agonizing development cycle may remember long periods of media blackout. Since this is a community project rather than a full-fledged modding team, we are pleased to announce that, unlike the original mod, it will be our policy to strive to be as open as possible with the development process!

That's right. Expect to see half-finished areas, heavy WiPs and lots of orange and gray "dev" textures!

We do, however, announce this policy with a disclaimer: We hope that all of our followers will try their best to be as mature as possible, and realize that due to the open nature of our development process, the vast majority of media that will be released will NOT be fully representative of the final product.

This can be a good thing! It allows YOU, the followers, to give feedback early, so that we can make easy changes to give YOU what you want!

So criticize away! Just keep it civil!

Is this mod dead?

If you're reading this, then no. There is no point in letting a project die without notice. If we were to die, we'd be sure to let you know, but now that we're in Beta, development is going stronger than ever!

Hey! Long time no see.

Okay, so it hasn't been that long, but definitely long enough that some stuff has happened! Beta is going pretty great. We've been Hammering out our bugs, making our props prettier, fixing our choreography and having some great recording sessions with our voice actors and actresses. Really, these guys are great, and they really bring the course experience together. We can't wait for you to hear them!

Amidst our polishing, general progress and whatnot, we've also gone ahead and set up a page over on Facebook. If you're interested in more frequent smaller updates (and you'd better be!), go ahead and follow us over there as well. It's a great time. We'll keep you guys posted, can get in touch with us, all that good stuff.

If this mod is a mod to Black Mesa, I wonder if this can merge with Black Mesa Uplink. A combination of Hazard Course, Uplink and the Black Mesa campaigns in one without replacing files would be great.

That's the aim!

There would be issued with subtitles (until we patched it), and you'd have to rebuild your scenes.image (easily done), but it should be completely compatible with all of the current popular BM addons.

I'm not sure about this. Uplink has a lot of bugs and compatibility's problems.

It's actually impossible to have, for exemple, Black Mesa, Uplink and Surface Tension Uncut at the same time. Uplink make STU and BM bugs all time.

I have tried this combination when we translated these add-ons and the original mod. Even the subtitles are buged by Uplink.

This is why we all expected the patch announced by the author.

I have Uplink, STU, and OARU and the only compatibility problem is the captions and conflicting scenes.image files, and there's already a fix for both issues here: Goo.gl and here: Goo.gl (respectively).

I can tell you with 99% certainty that the mods will all be compatible with a caption patch and the end user rebuilding their scenes.image file.

I forgot to mention that the 2 versions of my mod that include Uplink and Surface Tension Uncut captions also have a scenes.image file to make the game work properly with both mods so manually rebuilding the scenes.image file is unnecessary.

This is exactly the problem. Because all translations teams will need to remake their subtiles files.

And for the image file, only few people know how fix it. The most of them have already problems when it's about the installation of the mod. I don't think they will even listen about this problem.

If we don't include subtitles, then the only issue is the scenes.image. If no one wants to take the 2 minutes it takes to fix, that's their problem.

It's not mean, it's a perfectly understandable and reasonable question. :)

To be concise: We're busy people, and yes.

To be more in-depth: Working on this project isn't our day job. Almost all of us are either in high school or college, so that takes a large portion of our time all by itself. A few of us were MIA all Summer do to moving to universities. The rest of us are also working on larger projects, as well as have things to do outside of game development. Unlike many modders, game development isn't all we'd like to spend out free time on.

Then there's the fact that we're not doing a 1:1 recreation. Almost every area is getting a heavy redesign from the original, as well as a new intro and outro, plus many other brand new smaller things we'd like to add.

Trust me, none of us are happy with how long this has taken, and I'm sure none of us planned this would have taken much longer than the end of last year. We'd have loved to be able to push this thing out months ago, but plans change and bumps were hit.
