BLACK I.C.E. is an extensive mod of HOI3 under development by Panzeroo and many other members of the Hearts Of Iron 3 forum.

Description

Installing BlackICE may seem daunting at first, but provided you follow the directions here, you should have a relatively easy time with it. Step 1: After you have downloaded BlackICE, copy the installer to the same directory that as the hoi3game.exe and hoi3_tfh.exe files in it. Generally speaking, this will be somewhere like: • d:\games\Hearts of Iron 3 • c:\games\steam\steamapps\common\Hearts of Iron 3 Step 2: Install Podcat's LAA (Large Address Aware) version of the HOI3 .exe file with BlackICE. This will solve a great many issues with the game crashing as it will take advantage of the larger amounts of memory that newer computers can use. Podcat's LAA .exe file can be found in the following Tech Support thread on the PI forum •Overwrite the original hoi3_tfh.exe file with it. Step 3: Run the installer. Do Not Change ANYTHING unless you know what you are doing, just hit next until you

Hey Panzeroo, first I would like to say how much I appreciate this mod being around: I love the amount of detail and how many events there are available and how a player can change history with just one of them. One question though: for scripted invasions, I would like to know which ones there are and when they occur so I can prepare accordingly. Thanks!

I bet every general in the 2nd world war wanted to know that ! But I can give you a hint that they are all major historical operations.

Very true Panzer! However, for example Operation Husky, if Britain hasn't prepared an invasion force will the USA go for it anyway? Does it occur because of the date of the operation or does there need to be certain criteria met before such a thing?(i.e taking Tripoli, Bengasi etc)
Thanks for replying btw :)

The main requirements for Husky is that the axis no longer control North Africa, The US is in the Allies and at war with Italy. The date is not a trigger

Hey there, nice mod you've made but I've a slight issue. Every time I save a game and quit it and come back to it, all the politicians have dissapeared and I have no laws and can't implement any.

Your save game is corrupted. This can happen often enough in HOI3. There is a save game corruption issue in BICE which some people get, and many don't. No one on the dev team has had any save game issues.
What we know - The save game CTD issue is occurring from some people and not others.

Further, some people find it occurs only on auto saves, other people have manual save isses. Other people have issues with both auto and manual.

At this stage we don't know what is causing this issue and why different people are affected differently.

A quick list of possible solutions, some of which work for different people.

~ Launch the mod via the normal game launcher, or try the BI Quick launcher.

~ Delete all logs archives in Documents/paradox/hoi3/BlackIce/logs. Save game two or three hours of time the game. If CTD delete logs again and corrupted save game with 0Kb and run the game. Then Save game after two or three hours again until clear of CTDs.

~ Copy all music archives from main folder to documents folder. (Text archives no)

~ Choose to run the mod with compatibility mode for XP SP3

~ Turn off any background programs such as game booster programs.

~ stick to one save game type - either monthly auto saves or manual saves

~ Lower game speed, at least for the first few months

~ Close down game and restart to load a save

The game doesn't crash to desktop, it loads the save file with no difficulty but when the file is loaded all countries in the world have no ministers and there are no laws implented. You can appoint ministers cabinet places but you can't change the laws.

I have had this problem.

I fixed it by enabling 'Run as Administrator' (properties->compatibility) on hoi3_tfh.exe.

This seems to imply it is a security/privilege issue but I couldn't found out what.

Thank you for another update but I have one question, judging from this did Germany get slightly powered down and the Soviet Union a boost?
Cheers,

not overly. The Soviets gained a boost during their winter offensives to help them deal with the snow effects.

Gamer_1745's Third Reich events 3.46

Its not included in BICE as its a sub mod. Very good if you play as Germany

Thanks, so is this mod compatible with 7.53 or 7.4.....??? or this is a complete independent mod...???

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

its a sub mod of BICE. Basically adds a ton of new events for Germany. So you need BICE to play it. TRE 3.46 is compatible with BICE 7.53

the other thing which can be an issue is if you have a 32bit system and/or less then 3Gb memory. Podcat's TFH exe doesn't work on 32bit systems without some further tweaking. It also only works if you have more then 3Gb memory.

where did you place the installer ? Do you have a Black ICE folder in TFH/mods ? Did you manually remove any previous Black ICE folder and launchers ? Does the vanilla TFH game work fine ? If you have installed correctly, use podcat's TFH exe and have the minimum system requirements there will be no problems.

I placed the installer in the hoi3 directory, yes the BI folder is in tfh/mods, No I used the uninstaller the mod came with to uninstall the previous version of BI, and yes for some reason the vanilla tfh works fine

Did this help you, MrEric? Because I have a similar problem, vanilla works, Black Ice not. This system is 32bit and 2GB Ram while my other had 64bit and 3GB, so that might be whats causing this. :-/
