BattleNodes: Unity Dev Report #1

Welcome to the first installment of the BattleNodes: Unity Development Report. Here are today's topics:

  • Terrain preview - a look at the Mining District
  • A change of plans - the mod has been renamed
  • Future updates - what you should expect in the near future

As promised, in each dev report we are going to take a closer look at the map layout, with screenshots and terrain design examples.
The first one to be featured is the Mining District.

The Mining District is the closest zone to the Red Team's base and is located in the North-Eastern corner of the map. It represents an important strategic location on the battlefield, as both teams fight for dominance. Now abandoned, the Mining District shows the scars of battle, with worn down equipment, craters, deserted camps and so on.
If the Blue Team captures it, then it has direct access to the Read Team base, so it is crucial for the Read Team to defend it at all costs. By doing so they gain access to the Civilian District which is south.

Now let's move on to the second topic of the day, the name change and the reasoning behind this decision.

The previous title of the mod was very similar to a Tower Defense game developed by Hidden Path Entertainment, so in order to avoid confusion and other misunderstanding, it has been decided to change the name to BattleNodes: Unity.
I looked for a short name, easy to remember, same as the previous one. BattleNodes comes up as a simple, three syllable title, which is exactly what I was looking for. So happy day!

As for future updates, there is a lot to talk about and I wish I could reveal everything here and now.
But in order to keep things organized and less cluttered, the best way to do it is by separating relevant news and post each one in different editions of the Dev Report.

In the near future we are going to take a look at the next Control Zones (3 left), which are similar, yet different in terms of theme, design and layout. I will probably reveal each Control Zone in a clockwise direction, so the next one is going to be the Civilian District, then we will move on to the two Western zones.

With this we're wrapping up the first BattleNodes: Unity Development Report.
