The first open beta for Battlegrounds: Operation Sandstorm. This features one map called "Battle for Saukin" (Operation Candybay), new weapons, new sounds...
The year is 2033 and the world as we know it is becoming a thing of the past. Global Warming has led to more extreme weather and desertification across the globe. Parts of Asia, Africa and South America are consumed by sand. Oil and other resources are running out very quickly as the population grows rapidly and climate change consumes more of the planet. By the end of the 2020's, almost all the oil in the Middle East has run dry, over half the world's oil.
Leaders of the Arab nations are becoming unpopular after losing the Golan War with Israel in the 2020's. To bring together the resources and funds that the Arab nations still have, they combined under the banner of the Middle Eastern Coalition (MEC).
They just need a great military and political victory to win back the influence over the people.
Meanwhile, in the Horn of Africa and Central Africa, large reserves of natural gas are found along with a plentiful source of oil. Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda form an alliance and invade Somalia overrunning the already devastated country in a matter of days. Seeing the successes of this new alliance, Tanzania, Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Djibouti, Sudan, Cameroon, Nigeria, Niger, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Gabon, Namibia, Chad, Zambia, Angola, Mozambique, Senegal, Ghana, Mali, Liberia, Central African Republic and Eritrea join. The African Federation (AF) is formed.
Egypt fears that they are about to be pushed into the Mediterranean. The leaders of the Middle Eastern Coalition meet and agree that troops must be stationed on the border with Sudan to stop any AF invasions. A few weeks later, the AF declares war and attacks. Now there is a brutal battle for control of the Sudan-Egypt border region with no end in sight.
Who will you join? The desperate yet ambitious Middle Eastern Coalition? Or the large and powerful African Federation? Welcome to the Battlegrounds.
