Battlefield: High Definition is a modification for Battlefield 1942. The goal of the mod is to bring as many visual enhancements to the game as possible. Battlefield: High Definition was developed and tested by Lieutenant Clone (Dennis Robinson) of Beach Assault Studios. The modification brings the following enhancements to Battlefield 1942: Drastically increased view distances Increased the rendering quality of the terrain Increased the rendering distance of most vehicles Most vehicles will stay on the map permanently when destroyed Dead bodies remain for five minutes (you will rarely see them dissapearing) Added blood effects Added third person view Many more minor tweaks

There is more to it than just removing the fog. The terrain rendering quality was increased (it was looking very jagged without the fog), and if you look closely at that screenshot, you will note a large number of dead bodies and destroyed vehicles, as they now remain after death/destruction.

Also, an interesting side effect I noticed is that due to moving the fog so far back, levels like this one look much more vibrant and colourful, instead of dull and grey.
