After waiting for a long time it's finally here, THE BATTLEFIELD 2: FINAL WAR CLOSED ALPHA! Since the Alpha is closed for the public, not much information...
This modification aims to add a new experience to Battlefield 2. By balancing arcade and realism, we hope to create a new semi-arcadish and semi-realistic gameplay.
By adding realistic muzzle velocity and realistic fire rates on all weapons, you get a more realistic feeling to the weapons. Also by decreasing the amount of bullet spread when aiming down the sights will make it easier to get kills on both Close Quarters Engagements and on Long Range Engagements. In addition to this, moving around the weapon to much will make the bullet spread increase, adding more realism to the weapons. This, combined with the recoil on the weapons, makes you think twice before wasting a whole magazine on one target by rapid firing.
Adding weapon attachments like optics and vertical grips has long been an popular feature within First Person Games and is to be included in this modification. But it's to be limited to a certain degree so all weapons can't have all attachments in game, this is to decrease the amount of time of the development going to weapons. So the weapons will most likely only have the attachments that are most popular for the military in the real world.
Taking note to the ability to use whatever weapon you want in other games, even thou the country you're fighting for aren't using those in the real world, this mod will have all factions to have their own weapons that they use in real life. But to make the amount of weapons you can choose between bigger, even weapons that are in limited use will be included, making each country's arsenal bigger.
Taking note to Call Of Duty's somewhat popular and somewhat unrealistic bullet penetration, bullets will be able to penetrate some certain materials like thin metal, however, the bullets will loose some of their damage when they penetrate, this is to make sure that bullets will not always "penetrate" even thou the bullet would probably have penetrated in Call of Duty even thou it was fired from such a range that it shouldn't have penetrated. The damage loss when penetrating combined with the range damage loss will simulate that the bullet didn't even penetrate, even thou it might look like it did. This feature will probably make you feel less safe when taking cover behind certain objects, but will absolutely make you feel more safe than from the safety you feel from Call Of Duty's bullet penetration.
Another goal this modification has is to make the usage of vehicles more fun. So to make it somewhat more enjoyable, new ammunition types are added to several vehicles, like the HE or HEAT rounds, that will absolutely turn any squad of infantry to a pile of dead bodies, unless of course someone destroyed the vehicle with a RPG or perhaps even a stationary ATGM. Some other ammunition types are AP, APFSDS, and the faction exclusive XM1012 Canister and the 9M119/9M117 ATGM. The AP and APFSDS are for fighting other vehicles, this is the recommended type of ammunition to use against other vehicles when operating a tank, however, ATGM missiles are recommended if an APC/IFV is opposed to an enemy tank. The XM1012 Canister is like a giant shotgun for the M1A2 Abrams, it's recommended to use against large groups of infantry that stand not too far from each other. The 9M119 ATGM and 9M117 ATGM are in short like guided APFSDS rounds for the Russian T-90s ,T-72s and for the Russian BMP-3.
In addition to all the other features, another goal for this modification is to improve the visuals and to push the limits of the Refractor 2 Engine. New HD textures and new high quality models are used to make the modification more visually stunning for a Battlefield 2 modification.
Through the way the weapons and the modification is built, this mod will promote teamwork and tactical and strategic thinking to get to victory as some weapons are perhaps unbalanced and in some certain maps you'll either begin with an usually tie breaking advantage or an tie breaking disadvantage that the team can overcome if the team works together properly. Now the Commander and Squad leaders are much more important to get to victory, but those who are the most important ones are the regular soldiers, if they choice to follow or disobey orders will most certainly decide if the team will win or loose. Because in the Final War, every choice and decision matters.

Hello soldiers! As you may know, the Battlefield 2: Final War Public Alpha was released on the 18th May this year. As told here it was released in Q2, this was due to a load of multiplayer/co-op bugs the Closed Alpha Trial testers found and to all the new features that was added. The Public Alpha currently features new map lighting new sun flares, new weapons, a basic customization system using the vanilla unlock system and DieSoft Lite (aka SP Unlocker), some new vehicles, bullet penetration, new HUD, new ground textures, limited ammo on HMGs, realistic muzzle velocities, realistic fire rates, different types of tank and apc ammunitions and more. A full feature list can be found here.
While the Alpha is absolutely not bug or error free, the lead developer couldn't resist to add some more features to an upcoming patch. Some of the new features coming up in the patch are; Minimap added, outdoor and indoor gun sounds, new menu and loading music, new animations for AK-74 and an increased bot difficulty.
The lead developer has not found a solution for many of the bugs reported, some bugs that were reported are; ground textures disappearing when using SP Unlocker, floating soldiers on some maps, Frostbite map crash while loading and controls not working.
However, work to find solutions will not stop until absolute certain that no fixes exists.
