There were more than 3500 Germans KIA simply because they didnt evem manage to land safely as the locals were waiting for them to.So many of them were killed by mele weapons. If you visit Krete there is a graveyard dedicated to the kia german soldiers and there are at least 5.000 germans graves there not 3500.And if the capture of the Krete was so simple and easy why werent any German paratrooper actions after this battle?Simply because Hitler himself mentioned that "The great days of the luftwaffe were passed".

How do you plan to kill a German who is armed with Karabine/Sub-Machine gun, grenades, bayonets and P38s, not to mention their training, with sticks and rocks? As @JesusOfCalgary said, there were only 7 or 8 reported kills with melee weapons so that number in reality can't be bigger then 20. And btw when Germans recovered, they massacred the civilians for punishment. And why were there no more paratrooper actions? AFAIK in 1941. Germans controlled almost entire Europe and big part of Northern Africa so there were basicly no NEED for them! I don't understand how could you plan an invasion of paratroopers in the desert? And Operation Barbarrosa was going swiftly because of german Panzers supported with mechanised Infantry.

Dude many of them were killed instantly before they could even land safely(they were drowed in the sea or hanged at trees) so all the weapons u mentioned were not in somes cases used at all because the paratrooper was killed. In addition if you visit Krete you will see that the terrain is hilly and not compatible for this kind of warfare.I can quarantee that there were more than 7-8 kia by melee weapons simply because my grandfather fought in this war and told me about it.In addition my point was to remind you that there were more than 3.500 paris kia and it is widely accepted that battle of Krete was the first battle were civilian actions for restistance were so high. The luftwaffe lost its power after this operation its alreday proven Hitles himself mentioned thtis. My point was (before you started arguing with me) that this mod need a militia unit as the locals played a dentrimental role in this fight !!!!

Yes the militia had a huge contribution to the battle of crete, especially in the last days of the battle they helped the greeks/british out a lot. I do believe they deserve a doctrinal squad or something, same for the greeks (not sure if there is or isn't already a greek squad) because they at least played a big enough role to be counted for. Although I'm sure Serg_Codmod already has a lot on his hands.

i am form Crete.I really have to say that my ancestors had only a few weapons so when the germans landed they even hit them with rocks then grabed their weapons and continued the fight.Greek contribution was more important than the British as there were only a few aa guns so the Germans landed witthout problems.BUT they faced heavy resistance by the locals and had many many casualties.Churchill said that hitler could capture many more teritories in Afrika and Asia using the troops KIlED in Crete. So imagine how heavy their losses were.My point is that you need to add a Greek unit maybe called in by a doctrine :)

What are you talking about? There weren't more then 3500 Germans killed and about 4000 Allies KIA for entire Battle of Crete. Greek resistance wasn't a problem from I read in my history books/documents as they had no military training nor battlefield experience and were easily killed by German Fallschirmjagers who had months and months of training and preperations.

Well I just read through the wikipedia page on the battle of crete to find that apparently I was wrong, there were between 6000-7000 dead germans (glider troops, airborne+kriegs marine aswell as drown) Although Winston Churchill claimed there were 16000-22000 dead (which is now known to be untrue) While the allied KIA are around 17 000 (according to wikipedia) and as far as civilians they lost more than the estimated german forces lost. (7000-8000) according to cretan documents. (I have no exact source) And it is said 7 or 8 germans were killed by melee weapons.

I guess you read casulties for the entire Battle of the Crete but I think that wiki counts wounded as casulties too so I don't think that so many people died but I am sure that many British sailors died. Only thing I know is that althought the first day, Germans were losing badly, they recovered quickly and dominated the battlefield. And I didn't say that Crete Militia wasn't big part of the battle or anything I just said that they weren't problem for German paratroopers who had months of training and lot of them had battle experience.

ALso, to add to that, the greek divisions were with experience as they had already fought in greece but were forced to retreat to crete. And although yes the crete militia did help A LOT they were not in any way a significant factor of the war like @mixas says they were.
