The Battle Grounds(BG) is a Half-Life Modification based on the Revolutionary War. You and your teammates will have to act together strategically to fight the enemy teams. It will be team based game play.

In Bg you can play as a solider in two teams:

1. The Royal British Army
2. The Colonial United States Continental Army

For each side you will have a choice of several classes, each with their own individual style and unique playing feel.

More details will be added later as our source feature list is fleshed out

Normally I try to avoid news about development beta releases in the main news section. So people waiting for the next big official release don't get too confused with version numbers and names. But this time it's a pretty important beta release. Yesterday we released BG 1.2.2c RC1 to the public via the forums. This version is the first Battle Grounds build that includes the long awaited particle engine. We also doubled our map count and so BG 1.2.2 will ship with at least 7 NEW maps.

Some of the other new features BG 1.2.2 will include are:
- New and more accurate bullet ballistics/physics
- full HLTV support
- grass rendering system
- ....

Maybe this mod is getting a bad rating because those 24 people really, REALLY, hated it.

This is a really great mod, I haven’t stopped playing since I heard about it on HL radio. It bothers me to see this mod with such a low rating here, I hate to see a mod with such great potential get a slap in the face. Screen shots can't describe how fun it is to bayonet rush the other team and take a flag, with some more maps and better models this could become a real powerhouse.

Right now servers and players are minimal, I just hope it doesn’t kill the mod.

Ok I made a hasty judgement on false information.. I apologise though what I said about the rifle reload remains to be true but I guess the fun factors the most important part about the game and its not fun to reload a gun for 2 straight minutes.

Im sorry and I completly retract my previous statement.

You make little sense.
1. The Americans did win the war
2. There is only one rifle in the game, in British service through the loyalist. The Americans have no rifles as of now.
3. I don't need some random newb to give me "some little background of the time period". If you look for exact "rifle properties", get into reenacting. We can't have proper ballistics, proper reload times &.c for obvious reasons.
4. We decide what SHOULD be changed.

I really don't think you know what you're talking about, neither concerning the game or history. Of course there will be differences when we're not making a soldier sim, but you seem to forget things like there being no rifles in official British service before 1800.

Finally, if you don't like it, don't play it. You seem to care enough to want to change it.

I played it and its totally bent for American Victory.
First of all the americans have all the rifles and the rifles do not hold true to their historical propertys.
Littlebackground for this time period:
2 types of widely used guns
1. (Standerd of all proffesional armys) Musket inaccurate at long range and equal damage to the rifle.
2. More accurate then the musket but takes around 10 ten times as long to reload and due to this armys considered it expensive and inpractical.

In short your rifles are unfair and unrealistic and should be changed. Its because of this unfairness that I see no future in playing this game.

The black square where your crosshair would be is due to you running in software mode. If you run in opelgl (dunno about d3d) it will disappear. This should be fixed in the latest development build of 1.2.1

When playing the Battlegrounds Mod I get a small black square at the tip of my rifle.

(1) Is it supposed to be there?
(2)What is its purpose?

This is a great departure from the usual "MachineGunner" mod action. The single shot muskettes / knife or bayonette and the sword / pistol attacks are really interesting and fun to adjust to.

Great Mod Theme / Action and Educational situation for my 10yr old son Albonte.

about the black square im concerned

Which is 1 of the reasons i stopped playing

everyone chooses the loyalist class (he has like 100% acuracy, while most others are way off) so they can snipe u off from across the whole map while u have to chase them down, which really ruins the game. Also the fact that they can run and reload really made melee-ers get pissed off... cuz they would constantly shoot, reload and run back, and shoot. And it took 2 shots to kill, 1 in the head.

but if u play with good people (like in a clanmatch) its fun
i used to play a real lot, but it got hella boring
