The Battle Grounds 2(BG2) is a Half-Life 2 multiplayer modification based on the revolutionary war. It is the sequel to the popular HL1 mod with even more features and possibilities. The British Army and its Native American tribal allies engage in battle against the United States Continental Army and local militia forces. Interactivity is a very important factor in this mod and team play is as important as ever before. Take aim and fire muskets, prepare bayonets and take control of the battlefield to succeed in your campaign for final victory. Combat will vary from long-range rifle marksmanship to brutal close quarters hand-to-hand melee fighting. You will need a mix of first person combat skills and quick-thinking strategy to survive. So prepare yourself to do battle for your side and to meet the enemy head-on. Only one side can be victorious.

Thank you for your kind words Deathman.

FYI I did not dismiss anyones comments, I mearly stated most of the points have been raised before and gave the link for the webby where he could find and join in discussions regarding said suggestions.

I then gave an example of an open map to another poster.

I can only assume you believe everyone posts in the same agressive attitude as yourself, Itherefore suggest maybe some form of anger management training to go with your obvious qualifications on ********?

To Start yOur Mod From the Desktop Launcher

First its a good idea to know you can run any mod.
I downloaded Dystopia and used the Desktop Launcher
It worked!!
So I used it as an example to solve my BG2 problem.

First verify your file path
mine was:
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\bg2

Apparently this can be differnt depending on how and when
you installed valve or steam or wtf-ever.

Next I checked the Properties of the Launcher itself
If you right click on the desktop icon,
{for me = "Battle Grounds 2 0.17"}
and scroll down to the bottom "Properties"

1) First Problem: Target: Line
For some reason the " " was left out
around the second half of this line

"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 320 -game c:\program files\valve\steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\bg2

"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 320 -game "c:\program files\valve\steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\bg2"

2) Second Problem: Start in: Line
For some reason this line was BLANK!!

"c:\program files\valve\steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\bg2"

You'll notice that this is simply the second half of the Target Line
The Shortcut key: Run: Comment: lines leave as they are.

If your file path is diffent than mine, so shall your Target: and Start in: lines be.
Also after you run the game it will show up on your MY Games List
How profound!

Last and Final:
This is a great MOd Well worth the download and any minor problem to
get it to run.

:thumbup:THANK YOU to the Dev Team.... GReat Work!!

Waffen_SS1988 - if you search the BG forums I think you will find 99% of your comments and suggestions have already been made.

Fallen Angels - I dunno what maps you are referring to but the new ones are far superior to the early releases and If you want an open map try Saratoga -Goatblower

Wow. Just wow. I mean come on! Waffen_SS1988 was trying to make the game better by saying lots of things that really should be done. You go and dismiss it to cover your games own problems. He says do this u say someone already said do thi so thats 99 % of what he said. The guy makes all these comments and is obviosly a big fan of older wars, he probably knows more about it than you goeatblower. You are a class A *******.

Your using the wrong version. Download 0.16b.

Also, the bots are pretty much just for dev testing, they dont have any proper path finding.

This mod is great!

I downloaded this mod a while ago and have been addicted ever since. There are 3 classes to play as which may not seem much at first but you soon come to realise how Diverse each of them is and how they are suited to there own certain styles of gameplay. This is how i saw them:

Commander class: - Both teams have an officer class who is a fair bit quicker than the other two classes and has a sword and a Pistol, The sword is much harder to use than the bayonet from what I saw, and requires alot of skill, Practice, Luck and good Judgement to use, The pistol Is very unaccurate and does not do much dammage. Its main use seems to be to injure the enemy in close range before having a go at them with the sword. And in reply to the previous comment, the pistol reload is quicker than the rifle reload by 2 or 3 seconds from what I noticed.

Infantry Class:- The Infantry class is what seems to make up the bulk of each team and is the most important class. With a very powerful musket capable of killing in one shot and on top of it a powerful bayonet which can turn anything that opposes you into a kebab of sorts. Both American and British teams have different muskets, I think the British one is more Powerful than the american one but is slightly less accurate. The only bad thing is that you cant stop reloading with these ones, and if your not causious you can end up being bayoneted or sliced by a commander while you are busy trying to load the damn thing.

Sharpshooter Class:- This class is an interesting class as on the different teams the classes are quite different, On the american team there sharpshooter is armed with a musket similar to that of there infantry except it is much more accurate and less powerful and keeps its bayonet. The British team has the Infamous Kentucky Rifle, which has no Bayonet and has a kind of Hunting knife instead, The Kentucky Rifle is the most accurate weapon in the game and you can get some decent long range hits with it far out of your enemys range. The knife is much like the sword except about 10x harder to use. The Sharpshooter is also the slowest class which is always a negetive when being chased by an enemy commander brandishing his sword.

The thing that surprised me the most was the Dammage system, It does not count Kills and deaths but Dammage Dealt instead which is basically the ammount of Health points you knock off the enemy players, e.g. 100 or higher Dammage points dealt on an enemy will kill them.

Some of the maps are a bit stupid, (The One with the castle really) Some are really fun, my favorate is the one which has a small circular Fortification on top of a ridge and both teams have to charge up either side to capture it while the sharpshooters sit on the high points at either side sniping away.

This is My favorate mod for HL2, If you havent done yet I suggest you download it immidiatly.
