The Battle Grounds 2(BG2) is a Half-Life 2 multiplayer modification based on the revolutionary war. It is the sequel to the popular HL1 mod with even more features and possibilities. The British Army and its Native American tribal allies engage in battle against the United States Continental Army and local militia forces. Interactivity is a very important factor in this mod and team play is as important as ever before. Take aim and fire muskets, prepare bayonets and take control of the battlefield to succeed in your campaign for final victory. Combat will vary from long-range rifle marksmanship to brutal close quarters hand-to-hand melee fighting. You will need a mix of first person combat skills and quick-thinking strategy to survive. So prepare yourself to do battle for your side and to meet the enemy head-on. Only one side can be victorious.

Two hundred and thirty nine years ago, on April 19th the first shot of the American War for Independence was fired on the green at Lexington and Concord. It was a shot famously said to have been heard around the world, and by way of honouring this special anniversary we decided to share the latest in Battlegrounds 2 development.

We are pleased to welcome a new addition to our small development team. PhilmacFLy joined us in March this year as a coder, and we are very excited to have him on board.

Currently downloads for BG 2.2 stand at 5,065 on moddb alone. These numbers show that Bg2 is still as alive as it ever was, and these numbers have certainly inspired us to keep up with development. The focus of the team is shifting from large updates, to smaller more manageable patches. We hope that this will allow us to get new content out quicker, without waiting so long between updates.

The most exciting piece of news is that with the influx of new coding talent, we have begun the process of porting the mod over to Source SDK base 2013. This will insure that bg2 is playable for the foreseeable future, and will hopefully allow us to expand on the mod in new and exciting ways.

The rest of the team is busily cracking away at all the various models, maps, textures and effects that need replaced or updated and I'm pleased to offer a sneak peek at an early WIP model here.

This model is an early WIP remake of the Native's trusty Tomahawk, and will be finished with the latest patch.

We have quite a few updates planned for the future, so if your battle cry be "For King George and Britain!" or the cry of "Freedom!" keep your eyes open, revolution is on the horizon.

Are there any plans for cannon emplacements or even mobile cannons? I think the game would be alot less "running n' gunning" that way and people would have to be careful where they exposed themselves or else they could get a little gift from above. Also cavalry would be interesting to see, i imagine that would take alot of programming though so i wont be expecting to see that too soon. :D

the game is realalistic, and loyal to the truth
however there is two problems:
1. bots tend to walk into impaasable terrain and shoot at the walls ones ever on the servers ang i cant get on them because "it uses different models

download the svn repository of the mod, it's completely up to date, and as far as I can tell, completely compatable. If not, send me a PM and I'll upload the client and server .dll files, you can use them, that will fix it.

If you want anal use of period tactics, there is a BF2 mod under developement. Last time I checked the models looked crap(though it was running on BFV) but they had a few things that our mod doesn't, namely, a 'vehicle' for a line formation.

It's sad our source port isn't far enough in developement for some scrims, because that's where the game really shines.

If you guys have more feedback, post about it in the forums, make sure your topic isn't covered already though, beleive me, we have nearly heard them all ;)

If that comes off wrong, the weapons were highly inaccurate they were muskets, but Rev war was fought in line behind line marching firing squads., unfortunately a historically accurate game would have been boring.Well thats how the british fought the americans used Guerilla tactics, to an extent.

Nah sorry for the bad impression guys, source is a great engine, don't get me wrong, I really did enjoy playing half life 2, but I don't like's annoying...perhaps I should ignore it *embarrassed*

I do like the looks of this mod, and I'm glad that progress is being would help if the install actually worked on my computer though...I get some install error with it. The error is an NSIS's really annoying, because I like the revolutionary war, and this mod looks sweet to play...

BTW, are there huge big battlefields to fight in? like open landscapes or castle sieges of any of that?

Perhaps a fight across a small river bed or something with rocks and stuff littering either side for would be awsome!

Keep it up guys, you are doing well, I look forward to getting this mod install working so that I can play! :D

Once again, I greatly apologize for my behaviour...totally uncalled for.

one of my favorit mods,it is simply awesome to have linebattles, skirmiches and meele fights
