The ultimate guide on improving the graphics for Arkham City. - Work in progress mod
Includes two Return To Arkham presets, and a few different presets.
Extract presets file with suitable extracting program, I recommend Winrar. Installation guide in text is available in the extracted contents. Refer to it for the advanced mode preset installation. Place any presets you want to use to the game directory.
Search for \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Batman Arkham City\Binaries\Win32
Copy presets files (ini) to the Win32 folder.
Download Reshade 3 - Reshade.me
Open Reshade 3 and select BatmanAC.exe in: Batman Arkham City GOTY\Binaries\Win32
Select Dx9 mode and install shaders when requested.
Open the game and wait for Reshade to load. Press Shift+f2 to open Reshade 3, skip through tutorial and select the downloaded preset. If you want to uninstall reshade, delete the d3d9 files in the Win32 folder, and delete the reshade-shaders folder.
ReturnToArkham: This is obvious. Color grading is based on the Remaster. Added enhanced ambient occlusion method that's superior to whats found in the remaster.
Cinematic: Goes for a silver look. Don't know how else to explain it.
Dark: Works well in conjunction with my dark/brown sky textures you can find in my special textures pack (different file). Adds a moody brown atmosphere to the game.
Cold: Work well in conjunction with my blue sky textures you can find in my special textures pack (different file). Needs a bit of work mainly through texture and lighting changes but it aims for a daylight look.
ReturnToArkhamV2: Alternate option. The only preset in the advanced presets folder. Uses LUT shader for quick color grading. Also uses higher quality bloom and eye adaptation which requires downloading PirateKitty's Pirate Shaders pack found here: Github.com - Installation guide document shows more info. I do recommend trying this option if you know how to install it. On the github site, select the clone-download option and click Download Zip for the required shaders. Huge thanks to PirateKitty for letting me share the shaders.
Remember to use the 'page-up' key to toggle bleeding effects if they hurt your cutscene experience. Try out the 'page-down' key to toggle filmic mode available with all presets. 'End' key toggles eye adaptation for the ReturnToArkhamV2 preset.
Check my mod installation article for in-depth info on utilizing Reshade properly. Depth of field also has to be disabled through config editing, which my mod installation article shows.
Required graphics settings are outlined in the 'Installation Guide' text. It is highly necessary to disable any Dx11 settings. Ambient Occlusion and Anti-Aliasing also needs to be disabled. Physx may work fine on medium/normal but not sure.
