Barney's Tales is a total conversion of the original Half-Life Blue Shift add-on. Source Engine, used in mod, will allow us to visit the world of the scary Black Mesa Research Facility once more. Security officer Barney Calhoun, undecided major, was going on his first shift in a research facility. He put on his uniform, got his Glock-18 in the armory and set out for the Sector 3. Suddenly, Barney felt an explosion and the lift he was going by fell down. Next thing he saw when consciousness returned was a strange alien creature tearing a scientist. With the personnel and security officers at his side Barney must escape the Black Mesa before it becomes a blazing crater...

Greetings, I am Kub. Two days ago I registered here a Half-Life 2 mod called Barney's tales. It is a total remake of Blue Shift add-on. This mod has been developed for already 3 months and I think team has done much. Firstly , I'd love to type some words about website. The present one is only a temporary variant and soon you will be able to see a real Macromedia Flash miracle . Then about the whole project. It is not one-day dream. The team has very great ambitious and won't give up the modification. I think that Batney's Tales has a great potential and may be soon we will be able to compete with Black and Blue Mesas media. I suppose that there will be one media-release each month. Or even more. Yesterday I did not uploaded all images in the gallery - but now there are 9 screens and one render. See them for yourself.

You are not right. The soldiers (or grunts) from Half-Life 1 are smarter than the grunts (combine) from Half-lIfe 2.And they are not stupid.I have seen many games but the grunts from Half-Life 1 are very smart.

Looking pretty damn good guys.

I never played Blue shift, but I hope you guys do a good conversion job anyway. BTW that M4 is awsome. Good luck with the mod.

Awesome looking M4. I loved Blue Shift, glad you guys are re-making it. :D

How much health will the enemy grunts have? One of the things I hated about the grunts in Half-Life was how they were pretty darn stupid, but they had high health and reacted realy fast. It's annoying to stand right next to one and unload 2 M4 magazines or 4-6 shotgun blasts before one decides that he should be dead...
Since the AI in HL2 is impressive, I hope that your grunts will have sane ammounts of health.

How are they smarter? I was getting agrivated fighting them in Sven Co-op yesterday because you can't flank them. Even though I was across the map, in a dark spot, behind them (they're looking the wrong way), they whip around the instant I can see them. They aren't smart. They stand in the open and shoot you - with hardly a miss - until you die.

The Combine soldiers are awesome because they're dificult, but theyr'e dificult in a human way. They don't absorb damage like a sponge, but they'll use cover effectively. It's so cool to listen to them communicate, too. :D

"Barney Tales" does sound pretty bad... ^_^
How about Black Mesa Security or something?

I agrree with Panda.

I played Half Life one again not too long ago, and they were very frustrating. Their accuracy is impossibly good (with an S&P sub machine gun no less), and their only actual clever AI perk is that they will abandon their position when you huck a grenade in their direction.

Oh, and their aim with grenades has a tendency to never miss - either.

And yep, they will take inordinate amounts of punishment. Granted, I was playing on hard difficulty - but it was still bullshit.

Well you might as well play it now. It's on Steam, as part of the back catalogue, so if you own HL1 you should be able to download it without extra fee.

Really nice work guys, but I think the best idea would be if you, the Black Mesa team, and one of the Opposing Force recreation teams unite into one team, and make one huge mod containing HL, OP4 and BS recreated, with each one in the new "merged" team working on each part of the mod (I'm speaking about, like, the BM mappers, the BT (bad name) mappers and the one best OP4 team's mappers should share the work on the several maps, to make the maps very, well, how to say it, complete, and that's what the rest of the sections of the teams should do, but all do it as one single team! That would be cool wouldn't it?
