Barney's Tales is a total conversion of the original Half-Life Blue Shift add-on. Source Engine, used in mod, will allow us to visit the world of the scary Black Mesa Research Facility once more. Security officer Barney Calhoun, undecided major, was going on his first shift in a research facility. He put on his uniform, got his Glock-18 in the armory and set out for the Sector 3. Suddenly, Barney felt an explosion and the lift he was going by fell down. Next thing he saw when consciousness returned was a strange alien creature tearing a scientist. With the personnel and security officers at his side Barney must escape the Black Mesa before it becomes a blazing crater...

Wouldn't this kind of clothes be a little to hot to wear in the desert?
haha so true. it would be hot to wear in the desert.
They wear this kind of stuff in Iraq.
very true. the us's uniforms are really hot to wear in almost any comdition, except like at the poles. the rest of the earth, always hot. pretty much.
cool
For some reason, that model reminds me of GRAW. :S
honestly, thats one of the best player models ive seen in any mod yet. My only crit: legs might be "too" short.
Otherwise, great job!
In games, artists exaggerate the legs to give them a dominant look. The legs on this model is perfect. Its set up to work with the Source Human Skeleton.
nice model
but the chest packs make him seem obeise.
you know FAT
still very goof model
Dont like the ACUPAT. Otherwise great render.
Couple of notes for the uninitiated.
This is very similar to what the military wears in Iraq...which is a desert environment. Its better to be hot than have a sucking chest wound.
The model reminds you of graw because both are fairly authentic in portraying modern/near future military. The flak vest and camelpack is probably the biggest example of this. The guy is wearing a newer vest which is similar to what they put on the GRAW models. Makes sense.
The chest packs carry ammo and thus are necessary. Would you rather look fat? Or have no ammo? Granted he is holding a shotgun and those packs are clearly designed to hold rifle mags.
The acupat I have to assume was the closest modern digi pattern they found that mirrored the urban camo from the original game.
Crits:
He does look a little topheavy, and that may be because of his leg proportions as was suggested.
No cargo pockets?
He needs a belt with a vertical loop to hold up his drop holster (sidearm), especially if he's only using one horizontal strap. The belt would go over the blouse and under the flak vest and we should be able to see a bit of it, and the vertical strap leading down to the holster.
No zipties? I guess they are there to kill and not capture, I just thought it might be a cool touch.
Overall, a really great model, truly captures and updated version of the grunts from the original Half-Life. Can't wait to see the red-bereted sarge hehe.
Thanks all, especially EdgeFilm, you've answered on more questions than I would have enough patience to do. ) And this is just the very thing I want to say. :)
"He does look a little topheavy, and that may be because of his leg proportions as was suggested. "
May be, but proportions are ok, i've compared with a lot of references during modeling. I guarantee. ))) I think this is optical illusion or because trousers a little bit stretched.
"No cargo pockets?"
A little one on the back side.
"No zipties? I guess they are there to kill and not capture, I just thought it might be a cool touch. "
Yeah, good idea. May be make this like another object I guess.
"He needs a belt with a vertical loop to hold up his drop holster (sidearm), especially if he's only using one horizontal strap. The belt would go over the blouse and under the flak vest and we should be able to see a bit of it, and the vertical strap leading down to the holster. "
From above holster strengthen to the belt. belt is under jacket. May be it is not enough visibly.
Anyway thanks for your crits and support!
Sorry for my English =)
Looking farking amazing!
look nice, if you wanted it to be even more like the original, you could include a bit of white in the digi pattern.
the HECU soldiers are actually wearing urban camo gear this looks more like something from the iraqi deserts
I like it, it's a great re-vamp of Blue shift.
ACUPAT! My favorite of the BDU's I'm really going to thing that the army is attacking black mesa! Nice goodjob!
Wow, he is awsome.
But, wernt the Soldiers in Hlaf-Life not Marines? I mean, wehn they would be from the USMC, they would wear Desert MARPAT or Urban MARPAT and not ACUPAT. Other then that, the model is aswome.
Will they run out of ammo and use their side-arm? Will there be some that will just have a side-arm? PLEASE HAVE ATLEAST ONE! JUST ONE!
nice shader models too, they make it pop!!
Ehh good ,not like BM's but definetly different as good as it can be!!!.
Well done"!!!. :D
vry good render, gas mask is a nice touch, but shouldnt he have a combat shotty? thats like something a farmer would keep in his closet, not a soldiers weapon of choice...
