Balzu is a dark, Gothic fantasy total conversion for Oblivion. The emphasis in Balzu is on role-playing, mood, and atmosphere with a strong horror element. Customize your character's attributes and skills and choose from a variety of character traits, perks, and starting origins then struggle to keep your sanity and your humanity in a world where men turn into monsters and unspeakable horror lurks in every corner. Custom creatures, sanity system, role-playing persuasion system, and enhanced NPC AI where NPCs actually observe and remember your character's words and deeds complement a painstakingly detailed environment spanning multiple dimensions. Open-ended quests allowing you to choose whether you want to play as a hero or a villain with consequences for future quests and the potential to make powerful friends and enemies ensure that your experience in Durs, the world of Balzu will be unlike any other.

After a bit of a hiatus, I've returned to work on Balzu with some nifty new tools.

Balzu will now employ a couple of scripting extensions created by JRoush: Oblivion Magic Extender (OBME) for custom spell effects, and AddActorValues, for adding custom actor values (like new AI attributes for NPCs. Yay!)

The persuasion mechanic has been entirely overhauled. I've removed the tedious and repetitious menu-driven system with options that are integrated in the dialogue menu. Integrated persuasion will allow for more immersive and sensible communication between your character and NPCs. I'm still working out the details, but so far things are going pretty smoothly.

I've also expanded the landmass somewhat from my last post here. The initial landmass will now encompass 100 cells (10x10), all hand-cluttered by yours truly. At over 11,000 references, that's a lot of trees and rocks!

Lots of other things are in the works, but that's enough for one update. :)

Oh, I thought this project had been abandoned. Glad to see it's still under development :)

I never abandoned it, though I did take a break for a few months to work on other things and recharge. A lot of that time was spent improving my modeling skills which will translate into more/better custom assets. Thanks for your continued interest.
