It is mankind's most basic nature to destroy what he creates, to one day turn a season of peace into one of war. Badge of Blood will use Valve's Source engine from Half-Life 2 to tell a dramatic narrative of a bitter independence war fought between the corporate colonies of Mars and the major economic powers of Earth. In doing so, we are also adhering to the principles of realism, avoiding the many clichés of the genre. You won't see force fields, laser swords, or blasters here. We are going to great lengths to ground our science fiction in science fact, to tell a story of what can be; of what someday will be. What will the first war in space be like? What weapons will be used, and who will participate? How will it be fought? We aim to answer these questions as we continue to develop Badge of Blood the Half-Life 2 mod.
To punctuate our dedication to the setting in which the First Person Shooter will be taking place, we will also be publishing a set of core rulebooks and modules for a genuine pen & paper Badge of Blood: The RPG game! In doing so, we hope to bring together gamers of all varieties while enriching the Badge of Blood universe, and adding authenticity to the in-game experience.
Features
- Players can create custom characters with attributes and skills of their choosing, or simply choose prefabricated templates for quicker game-play.
- Some servers will allow characters to gain experience as they complete objectives, and improve over time.
- Vehicles will include ATVs, APCs, IFVs, MBTs, VTOLs, and various other equipment specifically intended for use in Low G environments.
- Maps featuring the surface of Mars will be built using NASA's MOLA (Mars Orbital Laser Altimeter) data from the Mars Global Surveyor!
- Weapons and Equipment will be designed and inspired by projects in development today: chemical heat lasers; gauss rifles & coil guns; centrifuge guns; and of course, the latest upcoming developments in infantry weapon systems, including some inspired by the U.S. Army's innovative Land Warrior project, which we believe will evolve into the standard infantry soldier of the future.
- The use of special equipment and vehicles will be permitted via an offline training and qualification system. This way, players can't use precious resources until they know how to use them effectively to support his or her teammates.
Combat will take place in a variety of low G and zero G environments
- The wilderness of Mars
- Colonial interiors
- Various space vessels and orbital stations
- The surfaces of Deimos and Phobos

We appreciate the kudos! We're working very hard to get our concept art done so we can proceed with modeling, mapping, and texture work.
I'm hoping to have some actual screen shots from in-game within the month or two, so keep your eyes peeled! And tell your buddies to support us here at ModDB! The more exposure we get, the faster our community grows, and the more talent we can attract.

Well everybody, Badge of Blood is slowly emerging from the womb all wet and nasty-like. We're still in the very beginning stages of concept & design, but as everything starts to shape up, the more excited we get. :D We're hoping that by taking this kind of unique approach, the concurrent development of an FPS and a traditional pen & paper RPG, we will bring together a large and varied community of geeks and gamers of all flavors.
Our goal is to build the kind of game that we've always wanted to play... and in doing so, build a game that will have a strong, thriving community that is passionate about the story and setting.
Anyway, we hope you will be compelled to follow our progress, and come to love what we've invested so much of our time in writing and developing!
Also, I'd like to point out that we have far more than just seven developers on the team.
