the regiment furthest to the east is the ski infantry regiment-- the regular infantry regiment was easily left behind within the first 30 seconds of the race-- and the gap kept getting larger and larger by the time ski infantry reached the other side.

ski infantry don't have machine guns, but the trade off is better performance in snowy terrain. it's also worth pointing out that the SAS troops are faster on regular terrain, but the Ski troops enjoy a higher level of resistance and slight speed advantage on snow terrain.

just did a test with SAS vs Ski troops on tundra and snow. the SAS dominated in Tundra because of their two sniper units.

when I moved the showdown onto snow-covered terrain the Ski Infantry would obliterate the SAS nearly in nearly every engagement.

in the Properties folder there are a couple of .tgi files that need to be updated/changed.

properties_intrinsic.tgi is where you create the new intrinsic property upon which the terrain modifier is built

then you add this to the desired unit

properties_terrain.tgi is where you add the desired terrain bonus.

then you need to add this new property to all of the terrain.tgi files that you want this terrain bonus to work on. in the case of the snow terrain bonus I ended up having to add it to about a half-dozen different files.

I think if you read through the .tgi files in the "Properties" folder it should probably 'pop out' at you-- since you've already done a fair amount of code-work. I could private-message you with more details if you want-- but that's the most basic explanation.

Description

Capt. Kramer graciously allowed us to use his "Forgotten Combatants" mod to expand "Uncommon Valor" in new directions. theharkonnen created a new ski infantry model earlier this spring. this helps make the ski infantry units more distinctive and easiliy recognized.

I've also created new terrain penalties and bonsues that allow ski infantry to move faster than regular infantry over snow-covered terrain. they are also more resistant to gunfire.

the only downside to this new model is that we can't make a new animation for walking and running-- so it looks a little strange.

this screen capture shows two regiments in a race across a snow-covered map. one has the ski-infantry snow bonus and the other does not.

I'm looking into changing the Finland map in WW2 so that more benefit can be gained from Finnish ski troopsl
