v1afinall

Experience the first Assassin's Creed through the eyes of Altaïr ibn La-Ahad with completely different visuals, graphics, changed particles, different npc skins ,effects and shaders injector that is included in the package. This mod does not contain new sound effects , sound replacements and new scripts.... yet (I'm still trying to figure out how to do that).

The goal of this mod is to change most textures from origin
al ACI to those from Assassin's Creed Revelations and some other unique textures, so you will feel like you're playing Altair memories in Revelations and some other unique textures, rather than in old ACI from 2007. This mod will greatly enhance quality of your game. See images or features section to learn more about my mod.

FAQ (Based on the comments and private messages)

FAQ

Q: I'm using Version 5 and the minimap/radar is stuck, only the icons move. Is there a fix?
A: RADAR IS NOT MOVING IN ASSASSIN'S CREED 1 I'M EXPLAINING THIS AGAIN AGAIN AND AGAIN AND NO ONE SEEMS TO UNDERSTAND ME. IT'S NOT THE FAULT OF MY MOD!!! There is no such thing as minimap in Assassin's creed 1 it only shows icons. The radar texture will be changed in the next version because people still mistake it with minimap (WHICH IS NOT).

Q: Why just replace textures and not models?
A: I have no idea how to do that sorry. If you can, please tell me how because I believe it's not possible or at least it's very hard.

Q: I'm enjoying to play with this mod but i'm facing some screen tearing using it. Your textures + SweetFX. I disabled Vsync but there's something else, any idea?
A: Try using multisampling 3/3. I am using 1920x1080 screen resolution and there is no tearing on textures.

Q: is it possible import combat of altair from ACR?
A: I believe it's possible but it's very hard and I think it requires a bit of skill in coding and programming or at least a pretty complex file replacement.

Q: Hi, does this work with the director's cut edition? Thanks.
A: A PC version is automatically a DC version. So, yes.

Q: Do I need to download SweetFX for this to work? and what are the install instructions?
A: Sweetfx is optional, you don't need it to run the mod. Instructions readme file is in the mod package.

Q: Will you also add the killstreaks like in AC Brotherhood?
A: No.

Q: I have two assassin's creed version in my game folder; one is dx9 and the other dx10. Does it only work when I apply it with the dx9 version?
A: I tried launching it on dx10 but it didn't work so I think yes, but dx10 is very glitchy in Assassin's Creed 1 so I won't recommend it.

Q: Man this mod is great, but it's for AC1 not for AC2. Assassin's Creed 2 was better (stupid arguments given), so make a mod for it please man.
A: UPDATE(I Started working on Overhaul mod for Assassin's Creed 2 so if anyone is interested go to it's mod page.)

Q: Anyone got a virus from this mod??
A: It's not a virus. It's a false notification from your antivirus. This problem was discussed on many forums about texmod.

Q: Hey there ! I've followed every step as shown in the tutorial but whenever I click Run, it says "Shit happened - D'OH". What have I done wrong ?
A: Your antivirus is blocking access to texmod. Turn it off. When you run the game with texmod press alt and tab, turn antivirus on again and go back to the game.

Q: Hey Friend, I just wanted to know if I have to install all mods given by you or just the latest one
A: You only need to download the latest version of my mod, previous versions are not necessary.

Q: Unfortunately, Kingdom mountains seems glitchy sometimes, they appear and disappear and deform. Cities are all ok (awesome).
A: If you play the game with my mod from a new save it should not happen at all. But if you start the game after you completed it, it might happen. It probably happens because there are too much textures and texmod can't handle them all. Maybe it's d3d9.dll file problem from sweetfx as well. Fortunately there is a fix for that. You must quit the game while the glitch occurs and then continue again. You will be in kingdom after loading save again and bug should dissapear.

You may ask why all the effort ? Is the final version not enough ? I thought so myself, but when I increased the resolution of the textures for the first time, I saw the huge difference, and so it motivated me to keep the mod growing. Not only that, I also improved a lot of particles, fixed many ugly things and added some new textures in the latest version. I even analised every city in the game and improved the atmosphere even more. Even the color palette was reworked again so that you don't need to use sweetfx anymore.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, take a look at these:

groundold 1

This ground texture is from 2015 version as you can see it looks okay but it's not very high quality.

groundnew

And this one is from the latest 2016 version. The resolution was changed from 512x512 to 1024x1024.

I hope it gives you some idea what I tried to achieve there. I would say that this is the last one but I won't, because the last year was supposed to end my work, yet I still changed so many things. Do not expect any more versions soon as I will focus on AC2 overhaul now so wish me luck.

Anyway, I hope you will enjoy the latest version as much as I enjoyed working on it. Thank you guys for any support you have given me. Have fun !

Confirmed, the easiest is to use the Old TexMod BUT first upgrading the AssassinCreedDX9.exe to work with more than 2GB of RAM using CFF Explorer, no need to play around with anything else than these 2 simple steps:

0. MOVE FILES IN AN EASY-TO-ACCESS GAME SUBFOLDER: the large Textures .tpf File, the TexMod.exe and the CFF Explorer program Folder
1. ACTIVATE MORE THAN 2GB RAM(Step necessary only once): From CFF Explorer open the AssassinCreedDX9.exe, then Click on "File Header" subfolder, then click on line "Characteristics --> Click Here", then check the checkmark "App can handle more than 2GB address space", then DON'T FORGET TO CLICK SAVE AND OVERWRITE! ;)
2. RUN GAME WITH NEW TEXTURES: From TextMod open the AssassinCreedDX9.exe, then from window "Select Packages" select the large .tpf Textures File, then click "Run".
3. OPTIONAL: SETUP START FROM STEAM INSTEAD OF FROM FILE EXPLORER: Steam "Play" button uses AssassinCreed_Game.exe which uses AssassinCreed_Dx10.exe... so trick it and delete the Dx10.exe and rename the Dx9.exe into Dx10.exe... ;)

Using schnitzeltests ReShade, this mod, and a little bit a tweaking, I have managed to create the best guide out there to create the best experience out there for Assassin's Creed.

You can there read how to get this mod to work as well, since that might be the problem most of you will encounter trying to install this.

Enjoy!

For Everyone asking how to use

See my Instructions i made a very Detailed Guide and yes the Mod is working perfectly fine even today ;)

Docs.google.com

Edit:
After spending hours of investigating whats going wrong, i have found what causes the Problems.
ciocolici You are right Reshade and Texmod can be started together and they even work together (my mistake was to forget to tell in my guide NOT to use d3d9.dll from texmod you must use Reshade d3d9.dll instead)

Biggest problem i have is that in the desert Level Everything looks so yellow if you look in the sun. And the clouds are ... not so nice ^^

This has to to with the Overhaul Mod
ASSASSINSCREED_DX9.EXE_0x2247F0FF.bmp <-- yellow sun
ASSASSINSCREED_DX9.EXE_0x11D2D4DD.bmp <-- clouds

I have tried all i can but if i change the tpf files in any way everything got messed up i can't repack the tpf file with the corrected textures from original game.

You can see in my Examples i updated.
And THANK YOU ciocolici for give me the hint with the old TexMod.
This is working with Reshade and i can use the ingame Reshade menu. But you are right if using old texmod you have to change the LargeAdressAware Bit of the assassins creed exe files else it would crash.

Last Edit for Today xD
Finally i manged to fix the tpf (Overhaul MOD)

I need to re write my whole Guide.... later ^^
But it's a lot of work

AND IT'S DONE :D
:)

LAST EDIT UPDATE:

Been tweaking a little bit more with the mod, and also found a way to make it work with schnitzeltest's ReShade as well. I found out that uMod & OpenTexMod, after doing some research, that they don't always work together with ReShade or SweetFX. So the fix is to use the old TexMod. I tested it and it works flawless. Just make sure to make the executable Large Address Aware, as I said before, otherwise the game might crash or freeze.

If you do not wish to use the ReShade, you can use uMod/OTM instead.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT UPDATE4:

I can't believe that after so much time I am still trying to make this work, but I can't believe even more is the fact that I have finally managed to make it work. I think I found the reason why it was giving me crashes and freezes. I used the Large Address Aware to enable 2gb+ memory to be allocated by the AC exes.

I have also renamed the dx10.exe to dx9.exe, and viceversa, to trick Ubisoft Connect into launching the dx9 automatically.

And lastly I have downloaded the uMod and have used it instead of OpenTexMod. UMod is the "sequel" of OpenTexMod. I have used the stable version, not the alpha one. You can also make a template and have the program "install" the mod automatically as well.

I now, finally, am going to enjoy the game. Thank you for the mod. Owner, if you still exist, include the info I have just provided. To allow people experience your work.

There is one bad thing though, schnitzeltest's ReShade seems to break my game if installed after doing all the stuff I have written. If I have it installed Ubisoft Connect won't launch my game anymore, but give an error.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT UPDATE 3:
Restarting the PC fixed the OTM not detecting the game open, but after playing for some minutes the game went once again not responding. And now OTM no longer wants to see ACDX9 open no matter what. Reinstalling both OTM and the game, and restarting the PC, do not help. Why am I wasting my life like this?

EDIT UPDATE 2:

It worked well for a while, until it froze out of nowhere, went not respoding and now OTM does not want to see the game anymore. Tried reinstalling the game and OTM, but it did not help. There is something rotten in this mod, OTM, the game itself modded or whatever. And something rotten in me still wasting time trying to make it work after such a long time.

Oh, but, the bright side is that schnitzeltest's ReShade works flawless and bring life to the game with or without the mod. So there's that at least, gratz! It looked waaay better with the mod though.(but only with DX9, so I still have to run the game from shortcut/main folder)
It really sucks. I really want to make this mod work...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT UPDATE:
It seems I have found out the reason why it was not working for me. I used the OTM template as default, to automatically apply the mod. If I first open OTM, then the game and let it load to the menus, then ALT+TAB OTM and apply the .tpf, it works flawless. It seems that if one lets the software do it automatically it does something wrong I guess.
P.S. I also used the Reshade provided by schintzeltest, and with this I also want to thank him for that. (and hecumarine for the mod obviously, but I really hope he learns to explain better how one is supposed to install his mods)
P.S.2 I used the dx9, since dx10 has issues with the mod. I did not use the launcher to start the game (Ubisoft Connect in my case), but "AssassinsCreed_Dx9.exe" present in the game's main folder

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't recommend anyone to try this mod. I've been wasting my time for two days to make it work. And believe me, I tried all possible ways out there. Neither OTM nor TM works with Dx10, with TM+Dx9 the game crashes while loading, with OTM+Dx9 the game freezes after I start moving the character. This mod might have worked sometime before, but at the moment when I write this it did not work t all. Or hey, maybe it does not want to work for me, maybe it will work for you. If that's the case then good luck with it, but I wouldn't bother if I were you.

Yo! I did everything as you said, tried both methods, with and without your ReShade, with a new game save file and with an already existent save file. No matter what, the game freezes. Either while moving the character a little, or while getting the white screen loading. I am not willing to give this mod another chance or try. I have given it enough as it is. Lost way too much time trying to make it work before, and now as well.

I am sorry, but I appreciate the help. I have no idea why it works for you, but for most others it does not. There has to be a reason, but maybe the reason has nothing to do with the way we use/install the mod at all, but with something else like the version of the OS, drivers, GPUs or whatever, dunno.

By the way, just so you know, what you wrote in the guide is pretty much what I already have tried before, but still I did everything again exactly as you have written it, hoping that maybe I have missed something when I tried before. Unfortunately there has not been any difference in the end.
