There is a common desire of all players that enjoyed AoE 1 to play with Ancient Civilizations, that why we are making Aristeia for 0 A.D.

Monthly Development Report #2

The Council of Modders aka Fallen Empires Studio.

Civilization Rework:

Zophim has reworked the civilization organization based on his newest research results. Therefore the factions we want to represent will be roughly organized threefold:

FATHERS OF NATIONS (2000-1500 BC)
THE OLD KINGDOM EGYPTIANS
THE NUBIANS
THE AKKADIANS
THE SUMERIANS
THE HEBREWS
THE MAGADHAN INDIANS
THE SHANG CHINESE

TUMULT OF NATIONS (1500-1000 BC)
THE AMU HYKSOS
THE THEBAN EGYPTIANS
THE MINOAN CRETANS
THE HEBREW ISRAELITES
THE PHILISTINE SEA PEOPLES
THE SIDONIAN CANAANITES
THE ANATOLIAN HITTITES
THE ZHOU CHINESE

ZENITH OF NATIONS (1000-500 BC)

MAJOR REGIONAL POWERS:
THE NEW KINGDOM EGYPTIANS
THE KUSHITE NUBIANS
THE ANATOLIAN HITTITES
THE NEW EMPIRE ASSYRIANS
THE CHALDEAN BABYLONIANS

LEVANTINE STATES:
THE PHOENICIAN CANAANITES
THE UNITED MONARCHY ISRAELITES
THE DIVIDED KINGDOM JUDAHITES
THE DIVIDED KINGDOM EPHRAIMITES
THE ARAM-DAMASCUS SYRIANS

AEGEAN & MEDITERRANEAN CIVILIZATIONS:
THE PHILISTINE SEA PEOPLES
THE TARTESSIAN IBERIANS
THE TROJAN LYDIANS
THE MYCENAEAN GREEKS
THE TYRRHENIAN ETRUSCANS

New/Reworked content:

Emblem by Lion.

NEW KINGDOM EGYPTIANS:

CIVIL CENTER:

FORTRESS:

ARCHER:

JAVELINIST:

SPEARMAN:

and many more that we will talk about next month as the structures are not yet fully propped and as it's too much at once otherwise. ;) Scan our github repository if you can't await it:

Note that each of those aforementioned units is also available as a cavalry variant. For the future we plan to use horses as vehicles where units garrison in (using Sander's awesome visible garrison feature in 0AD), which makes the current cavalry - infantry redundancy obsolete.

Functionality:

The convert unit functionality has gotten a new algorithm that basically is capturing that decides to convert prisoners instantly instead of making them slaves or prisoner of war. The ethnicity will be kept up.

Maps:

To slowly get ready for the A17 release, we fixed the Egyptian Demo Map.

We are making progress on the Egyptians, but there is still much that has to be done.

You could seek for help at a forum in twcenter for a mod called "total war: age of bronze" which could help you : Twcenter.net(TW-AoB)

Is this mod still under development? I hope so. I thought I could share my opinion on this project. So, I think all the historical periods yo want to cover are a bit too much. Though it is extremelly interesting historically, the dawn of civilizations ("father of nations") will be very difficult to document and implement in a military focused game, and as the weapons were primitive, will not permit many elaborate strategies. I think you should concentrate on the zenith of nations period, which is still the bronze age, but with much more documentation at disposal, as well as more strategical possibilities with -for exemple- the extensive use of chariots by the new kingdom of Egypt, the hittites and the myceneans, plus big and luxurious cities. I'm looking forward some reports next year! I would gladly fund you (though it wouldn't be much) if it could help.

This looks amazing, looking forward to akkadians vs sumerians, should really bring trips to the British Museum to life in future. Best of luck with the project!

Hey don't worry. We have Rise Of The East with the Han Dynasty.

Modders have united in The Council of Modders and we have now several new civs and features like capturing and weather in the works.

We also work on a tidal system. All together with the main 0AD team we strive for epicness, that's what our dreams are.

Although the release may still be far away we'll be releasing 'modpacks' sooner than that. We hope to release the first one (The Egyptians) in a few months. Releasing additional ones later. How long this will take (releasing all of the civilisations, and doing the balancing) is something we cannot say at the moment.
