The popular Horror shooter, Area-51 is being brought to the Source Engine. Step again into the Hazmat suit of Ethan Cole as you go on a mission through the government's most top secret base - Area 51. Accompanied by 3 HAZMATs, you make your way through the base to quarantine the deadly mutagen that infected many of the personnel of Area 51. You are soon alone, only your guns and wits to save you from what horrors await in the base...

With Source, we now have access to many features that the original Area 51 lacked. These features include, but are not limited to:
1. Superior lighting.
2. Animation blending.
3. Superb AI.
4. Proper physics.
The list goes on...

Q: Will the game have the original's story?
A: Yes; we're trying to make it as close to the original as possible.

Q: Will the game have Multiplayer?
A: Yes; the original had Multiplayer, so by all means, it will be added.

Q: How about some co-op?
A: No; the original did not have co-op, because it was meant to give the player a feeling of being alone in many situations.

Q: Are you one of the developers?
A: Yes; I'm actually the one who started the project.

Q: What additional content will be added?
A: Not much; remember that this is basically just a Source remake of the original, only with some touchups and small content addons.

Q: Will this game be available for Steam?
A: Maybe; if I can fill out the paperwork and get money, then yes. If not, then no.

Q: Will there be any additional characters?
A: No; please consult to the additional content question.

Q: Who is doing voice acting?
A: As of now, no one; but you can go ahead and help if you so choose.

Q: Can I help out with development?
A: YES; we need ALL the help we can get!

Q: Is there a predicted amount of time when the game will be released?
A: Unfortunately not; we cannot predict how long development will take.

Q: Will I get credited for only suggesting?
A: That is a maybe; depends on what you suggest

Q: Do I need Half-Life 2 to play this?
A: No. We have modified the Source Engine slightly, so you will not need HL2.

I've noticed you need voice actors, if your going to keep from the original game then why not rip the sounds and voices from the game or record them and use them in the mod.

As much as I'd love to be the lazy prick that I am, I think it'd be best I get off my arse every once in a while and actually put effort into my mods. Thanks for the suggestion, though. But that'd be disrespectful of me to Midway's now dead company to take their resources.

Emm but wasn't the main character voiced by David Duchovny? Kinda sucks if your not using good ol agent Mulder's voice XD

You sometimes can never beat the originals. If I could, I'd have him do voice acting for me, but I doubt that he would want to say all his lines over again, but hell, I'll try. Maybe even use the original lines as placeholders :V

I loved playing Area-51 on the PS2, and I'm sure as hell going to be keeping up with this. I do have a question, however. Is this going to be an exact copy of the original (similar to how Half-Life: Source was compared to Half-Life 1), or is it going to be a complete remake like that of Black-Mesa was for Half-Life?

I only ask because if it's just an exact copy, there's really no point in this mod seeing as how there's already a version of this game on the PC. I'd love to see remade maps, textures, enemies, A.I, ect. Best of luck to your mod!

EDIT: I forgot I had posted on this already in the past, I also didn't notice the reply of yours until now :P

Probably around next year, or the year after. We don't know. It could take a decade. But we'll try to update and reply to comments when we can.

A decade :)
I could well be dead by then :)
Any way it will be ready when it's ready, as the saying goes.
