Amnesia: The Second Dimension is a mod that turns Amnesia: The Dark Descent into a puzzle platformer with comedy and horror elements, with 2D action in a 3D environment. The aim is to create a loving parody of A:TDD, adding a new dimension to the story, whilst removing a dimension from the gameplay.
You will meet Brian, a Servant Grunt with a mind of his own, and help him to fulfil his destiny. The story unfolds at Brennenburg during the events of A:TDD. Whilst tracking Daniel through a re-imagined 2.5D Brennenburg, you’ll encounter a quaint and unseen world of friends and enemies… and frenemies. And you’ll discover that Grunts are just as scared of Brutes as Daniel is. As well as enemies, Brian will also face some tough decisions, with hilariously tragic consequences!
Version 2.0 has the option to skip levels, plus working custom level support.

For 99% of people, the mod seems to work just fine, but if you're having any problems installing or running A:TSD, please check here first.
General advice:
- Make sure you have got the latest version of Amnesia: The Second Dimension. The current version is 2.0.
- Make sure your Amnesia installation is up to date. The current version is 1.3.1. If you're on Steam, make sure automatic updates for Amnesia are set to "Always keep this game up to date." For non-Steam users, you can get version 1.3.1 here. If you have version 1.3.1, the change log in your Amnesia folder will still say 1.3.
- Some other mods can overwrite files from the vanilla game, so it's always worth re-installing Amnesia.
- As with all games, make sure your graphics drivers are up to date.
Specific problems:
- "The program can not start because [SOMETHING].dll missing from your computer" This error usually occurs when the mod has been installed in the wrong place. First, check that you have an up to date version of Amnesia. If that doesn't help, uninstall the mod, either using Uninstall.exe or via the Control Panel. Then run the installer again. Pay close attention to where you install. If your Amnesia installation has a folder called "redist", browse to that folder during the installation. If you use Steam, or have another version without a "redist" folder, browse to the folder where Amnesia.exe is located and select that one.
- "The procedure entry point_glewinit[at]0 could not be located in the dynamic link library." This error seems to be caused by a faulty Amnesia installation. First, re-install Amnesia and make sure it's up to date. If that doesn't help, then please PM me.
- The game cashes every time I die. This might be caused by a previously installed mod. First, try re-installing Amnesia. If that doesn't help, please PM me for a patch.
- The game crashes when loading a new level, after playing for 10-20 minutes. The reason for this is probably that the mod is running without ATSD.exe. Make sure you start A:TSD using ATSD.bat or the desktop/start menu shortcut created by the installer.

You guys kinda shot yourselves in the foot with this mod. On the one hand it is AMAZING, really beautifully designed, interesting story, works pretty damn well, but then you ruin it all with immense difficulty. Why are there no autosaves? With the length of some of the levels coupled with enemy encounters it is hugely frustrating having to complete an entire level from scratch because you died midway through.
I think the water/board jumping section was difficult enough without having to worry about a monster below. I am at the prison section now and I just had to quit in frustration due to getting really far then dying when cornered by 2 brutes.
I will keep playing, but what should have been a 10/10 mod is being held back by unnecessary difficult and frustration :(
Also, I will say that I have played my fair share of platform games, Crash Bandicoot, Mario, Sonic, Rayman, Ratchet and Clank, Abe's Oddysee, etc etc and the difficulty in these games is challenging but fair, that is the difficulty you tend to aim for with a platformer, so I dont understand what you mean by 'old school difficult curve' because this is more in line with Super Meat Boy than those titles.

it wont start. i used the installer and showed it where the amnesia.exe file was, but then when i try to start it says "it could not find the specified device, path, or file, you may not have appropriate permission to access the item"
Hi angrymans. If you're sure your Amnesia installation is up to date (ver 1.3.1), please try running it as an administrator. Hope that helps.
ok i found out how to make it work i just have to run the installer every time i want to play it {bit odd but now it works}

when i try to run it as an administrator it just shows a rectangular black window for about half a second then it disappears. nothin happens after that
Idk if questions are still being answered here, but here's my question: what the hell do i do in the Shadow boss fight? i actually quit playing the game completely after wondering for a half hour what i'm supposed to do. It makes no sense at all.
Hi - yes, I still check in from time to time, so thanks for asking. There are 3 stages to the Shadow boss-fight:
1) The Shadow is chasing Daniel around, you have to distract it from Daniel by smashing it's "egg pod" on the far right.
2) You drop down below and the shadow chases you. You need to keep going left and get back up the elevator into the prison room before it gets you.
3) In the prison room, there are 4 egg-pods. If you break one, the Shadow will take some time regenerating it. When all 4 pods are broken at the same time, the Shadow is defeated and will leave. To reach the pods you can boost jump on the pipes and ledges.
