AirBuccaneers (UT2004 total conversion) contains a new multiplayer game type with hot air balloons and cannons. The game is a compelling combination of graceful air ballet, fierce pirate-like action and 3D tactical manoeuvring. AirBuccaneers is targeted for team players who want to experience something unique.

The game consists of highly original concept and content. The new type of multiplayer game involving intense and strategic hot air balloon fights is crafted by mixing the game genres of airwar and seat battles with FPS aspects.
AirBuccaneers offers simple enough control interface which enables low learning threshold. The players interact and experience their surroundings by using their player characters in the atmospherically engaging virtual world. Thematic player models, weapons, graphics and sounds complete the unique atmosphere.
The high concept of the game is the graceful control scheme of hot air balloons. Slow movement speeds and large-sized targets reduce the amount of hand-eye-coordination and leave more room for strategic and tactical thinking. The adrenalin rush provided by the intense smoke-filled battle of airborne hot air balloons is one of the most important gameplay aspects.

The latest version of AirBuccaneers (Beta 4) UT2004 mod is available for download:
Some of the new features for Beta 4 include:
- Game runs on UT2004 (some of the code rewritten and optimized)
- 8 maps with different game types (redone all old maps and added 3 new maps)
- Balloons use the new vehicle code, more reliable with better collisions
- Full bot support added, bots now fly balloons and fire cannons just like human players
- Rocket cannon shot (load cannon with airmines) in addition to flamethrower shot (load cannon with gunpowder pouches)
- Rope added (press jump while in mid-air and below a balloon to activate)
- New character models: "Jarka Juntta" (male) and "Pikkulukki" (female)
- Gametypes include Moving Domination Target, Treasure Hunt, Domination and Team Deathmatch
- Graphical improvements, more effects, new sounds and effect improvements
- Gameplay has been balanced by modifying attributes of balloons, items, objectives, scores, etc.

If you live in the UK, you can save downloading it by buying a copy of PC Gamer. It appeared on the DVD (but there was no feature in the mag).
This is one of my favorite mods, in my oppion, funner than the origional game itself. Aside from some bugs, it works... for the most part, though I guess I can't complain, it IS a beta after all... Well I hope another patch comes soon (and hopefully it'll fix my problem of not being able to play Single Player on it... IE No Maps Avalable (Beta 4.1)) namely fixing AI bugs prehapse? And possibly the 2 blank spots under the Voice Command menu...

Impressive job. Fixes in latest BETA are well thought out. Wait til you get hit by a gust of wind. It's like you're actually there (but a lot more fun).
Explosions could be better but who am I kidding? This is a keeper if you like air battles.

Some of the new features for Beta 3 include:
- New maps (5 maps included)
- New gametypes (Moving Domination Target and Treasure Hunt)
- Turbulence affects the steering (altimeter and weather vane included)
- New manoeuvres for balloons (sideways strafe boosts added)
- Tutorial level (for learning the basics)
- Gameplay has been balanced by modifying attributes of balloons, items, objectives, etc.
- Flamethrower cannon shot (load cannon with gunpowder pouches)
- New visual effects
- Balloon tally indicated on weather vane (number of drops)
- Battleship model tweaked
- Server code optimised for better game performance
