Description

USS Discovery engages a Klingon F-4 assault cruiser in orbit of the planet Pahvo.

Throughout its history, the Klingon Empire had expanded by colonisation and conquest. Several species existed as 'vassals' within the Empire. Many had reached industrial or early warp levels of technology, but the Klingons, unlike the Federation, had no qualms with placing less advanced civilisations under Imperial authority. Forcefully.

Now deep within Federation space, Klingon forces approached the planet Pahvo. Home to a unique, non-corporeal species of beings who lived in perfect harmony with the natural environment of their world, the Pahvans had been under remote study for the better part of a decade. Though a world with no conventional technology was of little interest to the Klingon fleet, especially given the higher priority of their war with the Federation, there were individual commanders willing to take independent action in pursuit of glory. Pahvo was an easy target.

When the USS Discovery, under the command of Captain Gabriel Lorca, detected a single heavy Klingon warship approaching the Pahvo system, they raced to the defence of the planet. If Klingon troops set foot on Pahvo, not only would the Pahvans themselves be in immediate danger, but their natural development would be irrevocably damaged. It was Starfleet's mission to seek out new lifeforms. Today would be a day to defend them.

Though primarily a science ship and therefore comparatively lightly armed, Discovery intercepted the Klingon warship in orbit of Pahvo. The Klingon ship was ancient but heavily armed, easily outmatching the Discovery's firepower. Discovery, however, was fast and surprisingly nimble for a ship of its mass. Moving rapidly around the Klingon ship, Discovery took significant damage before sustained phaser fire brought down the Klingons' shields. It was a volley of torpedoes to the ancient Klingon ship's exposed neck section that then won the Battle of Pahvo. The Pahvans were safe.
